Prof. Kavita Shrivastava is currently serving as HOD - Electrical at Alard College of Engineering and Management, Pune. Having a total of 20 years of teaching experience in various universities, she has completed her M.E. in Power Electronics. Her areas of interest are Design & fabrication of Electrical Machines, Design of Power Drives, Different challenges in Electric vehicles & Illumination schemes. She aims to prepare her students for the latest industrial challenges with her dynamic knowledge.

How are the programs offered at your department best for the students to opt?

“Technical upgradation and knowledge enhancement”

Currently, we are trying to align the education system with the latest requirements by adding new Design & Automation courses in terms of value-added courses so that students can get knowledge of new technology. These courses are directly interlinked with the present and future needs of Electrical Engineering. These upgraded technical courses are job-oriented and students can get firsthand information of advanced technical requirements. As well, they shall be trained to face the upcoming challenges.

How does the curriculum at your department ensure the best practices of the industry?

“Practical exposure to industrial practices”

Nowadays, the latest technology is a need of the hour, and the training courses offered at ALARD are much advanced and tech-savvy. Our department is conducting workshops and certification courses in collaboration with prominent industries for faculties as well as students to keep them updated with the latest trends. We do have a Nodal center of Virtual lab of IIT Mumbai which is a great resource for students and faculties to acquire practical knowledge. Also, we plan industrial visits for students so that they can acquire industrial working practices.

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

“Technology is the key to success in the 21st century”

We have partnered with prestigious industries for delivering expert lectures at our institute. The training courses provided by ALARD are highly value-added and aimed at enhancing soft skills, personality development, aptitude acumen, etc. Our students have direct access to the internships program offered by AICTE- Internshala, which helps them to gain real-world experience. Most of the industries we deal with have an MOU with the Electrical department, which helps us get connected with them easily.

What are the types of projects that the students are working on?

“Latest electronic gadgets and innovations”

Under the able guidance of our Management and experienced faculty members, our students have developed innovative projects such as single-sided induction motors, solar energy generators, Electric vehicles, Vertical turbines which are highly advanced and career-oriented. The students select projects based on their area of interest and fields. Students are at present working on advanced projects such as Footstep Electric generation, Automation based car washing center, Driving safety sensors, Electric charging station, etc. 

What are the different career options after pursuing these courses?

“Diverse sector engineers and researchers”

Students are trained to face the latest challenges and can get employment in various Industrial and Government sectors. These courses are enhancing the knowledge of our students for their bright future in new areas. We do have a support center for students on job placement and are arranging placement interviews from various industries in collaboration with the Maharashtra TPO association (MATPO). Many of our passed-out students have been selected at high paid and reputed employment as Jr. Engineer in Transmission and Distribution, Jr. Engineer in Indian Railways, Electrical contractor, Designing Engineer and Maintenance Engineer.
