My time at Queen's

8.0 /10

Reputation, family ties, beautiful campus, I had always wanted to go here. Compared to other universities in my province the campus is far nicer, the building is prettier. Also, it isn't too far from home.

Course Curriculum :

Fair. I wish there was a greater range of available courses in the history department as I felt I've had to take courses just to get a credit that I'm not genuinely interested in. But there are a number of interesting courses

Exams :

None

Placement :

I'm not too sure, I haven't worked during my time at Queen's. But I know there is a work placement program where students in need for financial aid are guaranteed a job through queens.

Events :

Homecoming- The best day of the year, there is abundant school spirit and I'm always so excited for this day it's like Christmas. Known to be one of the best hocus, big street parties; Halloween- also a big deal at queens and typically spans three or so nights. Everyone gets really into it and it's great; St Patrick's Day- This one is really fun cause there isn't really a point to it, but everyone just collectively decides to go full on and celebrate it. Again, known for having one of the best celebrations for this, big street parties.

Fees :

You pay the tuition per semester, it is due at the beginning of each. There are a lot of opt-out charges in the tuition which finance clubs and such and you can go in and deselect these. There are also food charges through the school which you can buy, and of course rent, residence, etc.

Scholarship :

No

Examination Structure :

Good. Many of my courses don't have an exam, in favor of final papers. Being in History, I think this is a good structure because examinations can be a bit archaic as the repetition of dates and facts isn't a relevant skill in this day and age.

Faculty :

They are good. For the most part, they care about their students and the courses they're teaching and do it passionately. There is the odd professor who is disorganized or rude but it's rare.

Hostel :

My campus residence was great, I only lived there the first year. It was well-run and clean, but still, let the students have their independence. The food facilities were also great, lots of options. I now live off campus. The student "ghetto" here is great as its practically on campus and everyone lives very close.
