Chloe Review at La Trobe University [LTU], Melbourne | Collegedunia

La Trobe University

Chloe
8.0 /10

The only university which offered a pathway to veterinary medicine without requiring a high enter score. It also provides pathways into animal conservation, animal research or zoology. Plus the La Trobe Melbourne campus has great up to date science facilities.

Course Curriculum :

The course curriculum is very relevant to now a day problem within the environment and/or captive animals, this allows for me to be able to think of solutions for more modern problems once I have finished my degree.

Exams :

Chemistry applications -55, Biology - Biodiversity, ecology and evolution - 67, Biology - animals plants and microbes - 65, Biology - microbes, cells and genetics - 55, Statistics - 68

Placement :

The job opportunities after my course are very good in Australia as we have a lot of farmland with farm animals to be looked after. However, if you want a more interesting job/animal it is a bit harder to find.

Internship :

I have not yet taken place in my university's work placement subject, but the experience so far has been smooth with the paperwork and the set up of the work placements, as there have been two held seminars just for preparation.

Events :

My university has many different cultures, so many religious events are not celebrated. Yet many cultural days are held, mainly selling food and having music. La Trobe also often has events for certain clubs within the university.

Fees :

In Australia, all university fees are covered by commonwealth bank if you are eligible. This covers the cost of all classes. But a service charge of $250 is to be paid every semester.

Scholarship :

I have HECS help through commonwealth bank and this is just applied for through the university website and you can be valid for this within the week.

Examination Structure :

All of my exams are worth 50% of my overall grade and these as mainly half multiple choice half short answer. Exams happen in semester 1 and then again in semester 2 and most exams are not needed to be passed to pass the subject.

Faculty :

The faculty is really helpful and most are there to guide you the best they are able to. The staff is ready to answer questions through email or drop-ins almost all of the time.

Hostel :

I live close to my university, so I am still living at home with my parents. This is good as all I need to pay for is public transport to be able to get to and from uni. However, La Trobe does offer on-campus accommodation.
