The degree is also appropriate for those planning to enter a doctoral program in composition and rhetoric.
The program does not lead to state certification for teaching; students should consult the Department of Curricular and Instructional Studies for requirements for state certification to teach in the public schools.
Thesis Option
A minimum of 33 credits is required (27 credits of coursework and 6 credits of thesis). Of the 27 credits of coursework, 18 must be at the 600 level and 12 must be in literature or literary theory (exclusive of individual reading).
Non-Thesis Option
A minimum of 36 credits is required, of which 24 must be at the 600 level and 24 must be in literature or literary theory (exclusive of individual reading).
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
- Upload or mail your academic records from all post-secondary schools attended. If your transcripts, diploma, or any other academic documents are not in English, you MUST include an official English translation.
- Submit marksheets/transcripts of your bachelors degree
- Submit a TOEFL or IELTS score.
- Submit two letters of recommendation from academic references.
- The GRE/GMAT is required for most other Graduate majors.
