Working with doctors and nurses, individuals in this profession draw on their critical thinking skills daily to aid in the promotion of patient health and overall well-being.

The curriculum is structured so that students may study for three years at Purdue and one year at an affiliated school of medical laboratory sciences. This 3+1 program allows students to complete, by the end of their junior year, the coursework required for admission to a hospital-based training program during their senior year; 100% of students typically earn a clinical placement compared to the national average of approximately 50%. The curriculum also fulfills the requirements for admission to most professional programs in the areas of medicine, physician assistant, physical therapy, chiropractic, and dentistry.
