The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology focus is to provide strong educational programs for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, to conduct high quality research in biochemistry, molecular biology and biotechnology, and to effectively transmit scientific knowledge to the general public.
Biochemistry and molecular biology is the study of the molecular aspects of life. Incorporating elements of both chemistry and biology, biochemists use their knowledge of chemicals protiens and DNA to better understand how cells function in organisms. Accordingly, biochemistry and molecular biology can inform practically any area of study that concerns living things, including biology, pharmacology, biotechnology and microbiology.
