The Comparative Ethnic Studies Certificate Program examines global and local processes of im/migration, and settlement, including the forces that shape the formation of cultural and social identities. It examines the histories, languages, religions, literature, and folklores of these groups, as well as racial and ethnic populations globally and in the U.S.
Comparative Ethnic Studies strives to produce new understandings about cultural diversity and social justice. It is open to students majoring in any field.
Certificate Program
The certificate in Comparative Ethnic Studies is awarded to eligible students concurrent with the bachelor's degree. The program examines the nature and development of ethnicity, that is, the sense of community which a people possesses in its own cultural and racial heritage. Comparative Ethnic Studies includes the investigation of a group's social patterns, history, language, religion, literature, and folklore. It is open to students majoring in any field.
The purpose of the certificate program is to enable a student interested in an aspect of Comparative Ethnic Studies to take a coordinated set of courses while completing the requirements for a degree in a conventional discipline or field of knowledge. The certificate, then, signifies the student's specialization in this area of knowledge.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit copies of transcripts of all the previous education
- Submit the official transcripts of the application after admission
- Transcripts should be translated into English before submitting
- ACT and SAT score is not mandatory but can be included
- Submit English language proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 79 in iBT; minimum 548 in PBT
- IELTS: minimum 6.5
- Duolingo: minimum 120
- Pearson academic: minimum 56
