- This major equips students with language proficiency in Spanish as it introduces them to the multicultural nature and historical evolution of literary and cultural expressions in the target language. It provides students with opportunities to comprehend, interpret, and practice advanced linguistic skills in Spanish through oral and written exercises and assignments. Survey and seminar classes familiarize them with representative literary works and cultural texts from Spain, Latin America, the U.S., and other diasporic Spanish-speaking populations. Our students become familiar with theoretical terminology and concepts essential to analyze these and other cultural products. The major also includes the study of Spanish phonology, morphology, syntax, and dialectal varieties. Students consistently participate in intercultural events and service-learning activities in academic and culturally significant contexts. They acquire an increasing commitment to the mission of the University.
- The Spanish major/minor program prepares students to be proficient in Spanish and the cultures of Spanish-speaking populations. We teach to listen, speak, read, write, and analyze the language while providing college-level knowledge of its literature and the arts. Our classes foster transcultural understanding as to the basis for mutual respect, global harmony, and social justice. Many Spanish students double major; Business Administration, Accounting, Natural Sciences, Psychology, Sociology, Theology, Communication Studies, and English are common choices.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- International students are not required to submit the SAT or ACT to complete their application to LMU. Strong candidates for admission who do not provide these scores will provide alternate assessments of their academic abilities such as International Baccalaureate (IB) courses, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, A levels, or rigorous national examinations.
- Non-native English speakers must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) given by the Educational Testing Service and arrange for scores to be sent to the Office of Admission. As an alternative to taking the TOEFL, non-native English speakers may also take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

Submit your transcripts in English from all secondary schools/high schools attended. Full transcripts from each individual school year must be provided.
- Submit official transcripts showing all work in detail.
- LMU may grant advanced standing for certain foreign examinations and diplomas;
- Obtain certified English translations of all documents not presented in English.
- All documents submitted for admission become the property of the University and will not be returned.
