Bachelor of Science [B.S] [Health Sciences] From James Madison University

The Health Sciences program offered by the James Madison University provides students a flexible and challenging curriculum that integrates health, social, and human services. The interdisciplinary approach provides students with educational opportunities to develop the intellectual competencies necessary to pursue advanced studies and ultimately careers in various health professions.

The program offers two concentrations: 

• Health Sciences - Health Assessment and Promotion
• Health Sciences - Health Studies

Program objectives:

• Indicate the skills necessary to advance and promote health and improve quality of life.

• Recognize the importance of developing collaborative relationships with health professionals.

• Identify unique health related challenges and assets among diverse populations.

• Assess the impact of political, legal, ethical decision on health.

• Demonstrate acceptable oral and written communication skills.

• Identify the social, behavioral, environmental, and biological determinants of health.

• Distinguish between theoretical models of health behavior and their use of health promotion and disease prevention strategies.

• Apply research skills for problem solving and critical thinking in relation to health.

• Identify core terminology utilized in community health and medicine.

• Identify the primary structure and function of core components of the United States health care system.
