?With some additional job-specific training, students entering the job market could function as applied statisticians working in areas such as actuarial science, wildlife management, marketing, quality control, and epidemiology to name a few.?

All CMU baccalaureate graduates are expected to demonstrate proficiency in critical thinking, communication fluency, quantitative fluency, and specialized knowledge/applied learning. In addition to these campus-wide student learning outcomes, graduates of this major will be able to:?

1. Use methods of applied mathematics to model and solve applied problems (Specialized Knowledge/Applied Learning/Quantitative Fluency)?

2. Use mathematical software (including calculators) to aid in problem-solving and investigation, and understand its limitations. (Applied Learning)?

3. Prove propositions deductively from definitions and theorems, using clear and precise prose. (Critical Thinking)?

4. Demonstrate comprehension of applied mathematics and deliver a substantial written and oral presentation in an area of applied mathematics. (Specialized Knowledge/Communication Fluency)


Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Submit an official transcript from the last high school or secondary school attended
  • Official transcripts should be directly sent from the school of the applicant
  • SAT/ACT score is optional
  • Students not taking SAT or ACT test need to complete placement exams with university’s testing center 
  • Submit English Language Proficiency test scores

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum score of 70 in iBT
  • IELTS: minimum band 6
