Students majoring in German are urged to study abroad in one of the approved programs in a German-speaking area. Many German majors study in Freiburg, Munich, Heidelberg, or Hamburg. The Europe in Transition Program is a Spring semester, comparative-studies, field-research program in Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, and Germany. It explores the process of transition to a post-industrial, post-communist, European Union. Financial aid is available for all approved programs.
German majors choose from two different concentrations:
- German Studies:?The German Studies program prepares students planning careers in international law, foreign service, and international business.
- German Literature:?German Literature focuses on writings in German from present-day German nonfiction to the prose, drama, and poetry of Goethe.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit official transcripts of high school and other educational institution attended
- Complete a secondary school report given by the university
- Official transcripts must be evaluated by an accredition agency like WES, SpanTran or ECE
- Submit one recommendation letter from a teacher, coach or supervisor
- Submit one essay
- Students are encouraged to appear in an interview
- Submit a statement of activities highlighting what you are doing since completion of high school
- Submitting SAT/ACT score is optional
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum score of 79 in iBT; 8.0+ in Essentials
- IELTS: minimum score of 6.5
- PTE: minimum score of 53
- MELAB: minimum 91
- Duolingo: minimum score of 110
