Meghan Review at Lafayette College, Easton | Collegedunia

Lafayette College - amazing school!

M
9.0 /10

I fell in love with the campus. It was a small school where it seemed like professors and students both worked hard. People were friendly and welcoming. It was a wonderful atmosphere. I also wanted to attend a small school.

Course Curriculum :

A good curriculum but does not overwhelm the student with a ton of required classes. At the time it was one math class, two lab sciences, freshman seminar, sophomore seminar, two semesters of language or related cultural class, English 101.

Exams :

SAT, SAT II Writing, SAT II Math 1C - no other tests in order to get into the school besides those three.

Placement :

Pretty good. Career services try hard but the focus is more on engineering and business. The students in the humanities have to make their own way, as there aren't as many resources available to them.

Internship :

Yes, January 'externships' which are unpaid with alumni in a field the student is interested in. These last from one day to a week. Good for resume building and making connections as well as learning about life in the working world.

Events :

Greek Week, Theater and plays, sports, college?s founding, 1000 nights until graduation, Lehigh/Lafayette rivalry and football game which is a big deal and very exciting!

Fees :

At the time I attended it was approximately $40,000 per year. The cost has risen significantly since then and is now over $65,000 per year. Unfortunately, the price seems to keep increasing at a much faster rate than the average salary.

Scholarship :

No, I did not, however, the school does offer a scholarship to the top 10% of each freshman class. This prestigious scholarship also includes a free winter session study abroad trip which is equivalent to taking one class on campus.

Examination Structure :

Exams depend on major and are usually structured in a fair schedule. Students get very stressed and the library fills up with people looking for places to work. But it is not unreasonable and is fair to the students.

Faculty :

Overall excellent faculty members. They work hard and it shows. They truly care about their students. Of course, not every professor is amazing but the vast majority are excellent!

Hostel :

Most students live on campus where they have a wide variety of dorms available to them. Seniors only are allowed to live off campus, most are within a few blocks (easy walking distance) of the school. There are also fraternity and sorority houses which are occupied by about 25 students per organization.
