Mark Matlock Review at University Of Central Arkansas [UCA], Conway | Collegedunia

University of Central Arkansas's Review

MM
7.8 /10

It was fairly close to home. I have family members that are alumni, and I knew the campus well & knew they had good bachelor programs. Also, the tuition was affordable, compared to other colleges in the state.

Course Curriculum :

I think it could be improved because there seems to be a lot of fluff in college requirements. I am here to earn a degree, not pack my schedule with gratuitous classes just to reach a minimum quota of course hours.

Exams :

I took the SAT & ACT before enrolling in college. I got a 26 on the ACT & I don't recall my SAT score, but I remember being pleased with it. I also took AP exams in high school, for English & Science classes. I got a 4 on the English AP exam & a 3 on the Biology exam.

Placement :

They are good. I feel that a genuine effort is made to match students with internships that will actually benefit them in the real world. Also, they try to make sure students are taking part in opportunities that are relevant to their majors.

Internship :

Yes, there are internships provided. There are work-study opportunities & also partnerships with local companies. They try to match students with internships that are relevant to their degree program. Most ones I've seen have a stipend of $10 per hour.

Events :

There are a lot of events on campus to keep students entertained. Greek Life & sports are definitely the most celebrated things on campus. Organizations also hold their own events that are open to the public.

Fees :

There is a huge list of fees, starting with tuition & housing at the top. We get charged for things that we might not even use, like printing, the gym, or journalism fees. These fees are mandatory & you cannot opt out.

Scholarship :

Yes, I received my state's lottery scholarship, as well as student loans and pull grants. I think it?s appealing to cash in on student loans but I've definitely learned the hard way that they will come back to bite you in the long run.

Examination Structure :

The exam structure is pretty good. There are multiple testing centers on campus & a good variety of exams are available to take, whether it be entry level exams, exit exams, or exams for graduate school.

Faculty :

I generally like the staff, although a few in the campus offices can be a bit dismissive & not really care about students. I'm referring to people in the Housing & Student Accounts offices. You can definitely tell college is a business.

Hostel :

I've lived in campus housing every year & I'm currently in a campus apartment. I love the flexibility because, in dorms, you're forced to leave when school is on break. In apartments, you can come & go as you please.
