Emily Morley Review at Loyola University, Chicago | Collegedunia

Loyola - PR preference over advertising

I wanted to be in Chicago and have a college that was community-driven. The campus is beautiful and all of my classes are taken in the heart of downtown which was a big selling point for me. I enjoyed the environment when I visited.

Course Curriculum :

It's good but when it comes to my specific major, they focus a lot more on PR over advertising and Loyola does not help you build a portfolio for the advertising world at all. Most of the curriculum is perfectly challenging while also a great learning experience.

Exams :

I took the ACT and scored a 23. I took the SAT and scored around 1300. That is all that I took to get in. I only submitted an ACT.

Placement :

I actually work for the career center at my university, however, there are never 'placements' into jobs or internships. The job opportunities are posted on the online job board, however, many of which are unpaid.

Fees :

It's so expensive since it is a private school. I believe tuition is up to about $50,000 a year and there is tuition raise every year. Other fees include room and board, averaging around 6,000 dollars a semester, along with CTA pass.

Scholarship :

Yes, I apply for FASFA every year and received a federal grant. I also have many student loans through Stanford.

Examination Structure :

The exam structure varies depending on which professor you have and how they choose to structure their exams. We do not need to buy our own scantrons since it is smaller class sizes at Loyola University Chicago.

Faculty :

I enjoy most of my professors, as they hire passionate and experienced individuals to be our professors and inspire students. Farther up faculty can be annoying and difficult to deal with in the financial aid department.

Hostel :

I lived on campus dorms for my first 2 years because it is required by the university. I am now living in an off-campus apartment which is nice and I will do the same again next year. The off-campus apartments most students live in are still a very close walk to campus.
