Kailey Review at University Of Minnesota- Duluth [UMD], Duluth | Collegedunia

UMD

I applied for this college because it was the cheapest. I transferred to UMD from Michigan Tech my sophomore year because I couldn't afford Michigan Tech anymore. I only applied to 2 schools during my senior year of high school. The application fees for Michigan Tech were free but at UMD it was $50.

Course Curriculum :

I think there needs to be more actuarial science related classes to help me on while applying to jobs.

Exams :

The idea to pursue statistics because I love math and I've always done well in math classes in the past. I changed my major from biomedical engineering to statistics because I didn't like all the engineering classes, but I loved all the math classes. I got a 29 on my ACT and the minimum score required to get into UMD was an 18.

Placement :

There are hundreds of companies that come to campus a few times a year that are recruiting students for internships or jobs. The average students of getting placed is very high. There are job fairs for certain majors.

Internship :

There are many career fairs at UMD during the year to get an internship. There are many campus jobs too. There is a website that lists all available jobs on campus. You can apply online and they will get back to you in you are selected for interview.

Fees :

The tuition that I pay is around $10,000 a year. I have loans through Sallie Mae to pay for college. I wasn't awarded any scholarship at UMD because I was a transfer student and there aren't many scholarships available for transfer students. I pay less because I live off-campus so I don't have to pay for dorm.

Examination Structure :

The exams during the year are taken in class. The exams during finals week are set at designated times and the dates are given a few weeks after the semester starts.

Faculty :

It's average. There are about 30 students in each of my classes. All of my professors have office hours to help students whenever they are stuck on a topic in class.
