Danielle Deodath Review at St. John's University [SJU], Jamaica | Collegedunia

St. John's University

DD
8.3 /10

They gave me a lot of scholarship money and it's only 20 mins from home so I can commute and save the money I would've spent doing elsewhere. Combined with FAFSA, it hardly costs much for me to attend.

Course Curriculum :

It's glorified high school for me. The classes are all easy if you choose the right professors and the workload is not heavy. Some of the required courses are a waste of time in my opinion, like Discover New York, where we have to learn about New York City. I'm from NYC, I don't need that course. That's 3 credits of my time wasted. That's really my only grievance but boy, does it piss me off.

Exams :

I took the SAT in high school and just recently took the LSAT so that I can go to law school next Fall.

Fees :

My view of the fee structure is very skewed because I get a lot of money off of my tuition. I think the base tuition is $36,000 or $42,000 but I'm, not 1000% sure.

Scholarship :

Yes, I received a Catholic High Schooler scholarship just for coming from a CHS, then I received an academic scholarship which was awarded based on my high school grades and merit. I didn't have to apply for scholarships, St John's does that for you and automatically awards it. I applied for FAFSA through their official process.

Examination Structure :

We have mandatory midterms and finals but everything else is subject to the professor. I've had some profs not give finals, others used the midterm as a final, some gave really intense and formal finals. Midterms aren't uniform, some are in the form of tests and some are essays and so forth but they're not taken as seriously as finals.

Faculty :

Faculty is awesome. The vast majority are all really understanding professionals who know what it's like to be a college student and don't try to make life harder than it has to be.
