Punith Narayanaswamy Review at Northeastern University [NEU], Boston | Collegedunia

A day at Northeastern

Location, neighboring colleges are all IVY league, COOP program, good ranking of the university

Course Curriculum :

Excellent curriculum which follows industry specific standards. Very useful subjects in Data Science, Cloud and Software Engineering. All these courses were directly what the industry wanted.

Exams :

GRE Verbal 151, Quant 164, writing 4, TOEFL 98, BE Marks, Work Experience, previous technical qualifications, educational background

Placement :

Most of our department alumni are all doing well, with competitive packages and it's a great motivation for all the new students to come. When it comes to research, there are some professors who take assistants for research and there are also research hubs in the city where you can work with students from other colleges like MIT and Harvard.

Internship :

Boston Children's Hospital, Junior Software Engineer, 40$/hr. You have to opt for the COOP subject which is managed by the MGEN team of our faculty. This COOP subject is worth one credit where they teach, discuss and help us practice on the overall mindset of a working professional, which is very required, considering we're in International places. After finishing the subject, we get access to the university website for careers which has thousands of jobs from all the world, but typically in the US. There is also a dedicated Academic Advisor for each student who handles the student profiles with the company. The advisors are really helpful in our coop search and that's how I got my coop at Boston Children's Hospital.

Fees :

42,666$ for 1 year on an average, which was the i20 amount, which is inclusive of both academic fees as well as the living expenses.

Scholarship :

No scholarship

Faculty :

Our director, Prof. Kal Bugrara holds more than 25 years of experience in the Industry. His classes are crisp and so advanced in the dialogue delivery. One of our lecturers, Prof. Mohsen Ghassemi, gives great assignments that make learning so easy. Prof. Tejas Parikh teaches the advanced cloud computing subject and it covers most of the processes that are regulated in the Industry. This is a very useful subject, one that has gotten us a lot of job offers.

Campus Life :

The campus is all bright with a lot of hush. The community centres as well as the library are great resources and are state of the art! Apart from the academics, the university also hosts and supports a lot of sporting events. Our Ice Hockey team holds a national level heritage.

Hostel :

Boston is a little steep on the real estate but they have excellent condos for all tastes. If you plan to stay a little away from the university, you can easily manage with a great room for yourself or if you plan to stay near the university, you'll have to share your room to bear the expenses. Either way, the city is well connected with public transport.
