MS in Computer Science review at California State University-Long Beach

MJ
6.8 /10

The university has significantly less tution fee and is one of the cheapest universities for MS in Computer Science in USA.Moreover it is located in California where weather is comfortable to live, study and tour and also it is the state where most IT companies in USA are situated. The curriculum offered by the university is also decent. Moreover the university has ample number of part time jobs so that I can manage my living expense.Almost everyone is able to secure a part time job in 2nd semester and able to manage out the complete living expense.

Course Curriculum :

I would say that the curriculum offered by the university is decent, not too good nor too bad either.

Exams :

GRE,TOEFL required.My GRE was 305 (Verbal 146, Quant 159, AWA 4) and TOEFL was 85

Placement :

I would say they are decent.Placements generally in US is off campus, you have to search for jobs on linkedin unlike in India where companies come to campus. Here you have to search online via job portal like linkedin, indeed etc.I would say that yes there is a fight and struggle to get job but eventually with time almost everyone is able to find a full time job with the paasage of time and start working here in USA post completion of MS in good companies with a decent package .

Internship :

During my time in 2020, Covid came and most of the internships were cancelled so I couldn't secure an internship.

Fees :

Well it is 7700usd/semester. So it depends whether you can complete degree in 3 semesters or 4 semesters. Generally the total cost for MS comes be around 25lakhs-30lakhs including the living expense assuming you work part time in campus which almost everyone does.

Scholarship :

No scholoarship

Faculty :

Faculty here is also decent. Some professors were fantastic and really had a wonderful time with their classes and exams and working on the projects given by the professor.Again I would say it is an individual choice where some professors one would find great to study under but not so a good experience with other professors.

Campus Life :

Campus life is fantastic. You get an excellent free wifi, fantastic gym to workout, excellent and a comfortable library to study. You can play arpund the campus, it is quite big.Bookstore is exceptional with plenty of good material around. There are numerous lawn tennis courts, large swimming pool.Numerous game events happen like basketball matches in Walter pyramid to watch, water polo matches, softball matches etc.

Hostel :

Generally students here live in off campus housing in sharing in mainly three apartments- 1-Beverly Plaza apartments(Best , I lived here for both 2 years, a little expensive but best in quality, has AC) 2-Park Plaza Apartments(Second best, little cheaper but doesn't have AC so gets hotter in summer to live) 3-Patio Gardens( Decent apartment ) All are very clean. On campus housing is expensive. If you live offcampus expect to pay around 600usd/month to 1000usd/month depending on you.
