Ashley Review at Rollins College, Winter Park | Collegedunia

Ashley's experience with Rollins College

A
8.3 /10

I chose to attend Rollins College because it was a luxury school that I could afford. They offered me the most scholarships and provide an amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity. The campus is stunning itself, the faculty is small for my program and makes us feel at home, and its small campus makes me feel like I am a person, not just a number.

Course Curriculum :

I feel like it's limited compared to other colleges. Rollins, is a liberal arts college so it?s focused around a 'well-rounded, liberal arts education' meaning that you dabble in many areas, not just your major.

Exams :

I took the SAT, ACT, and AP exams. They look at one or the other for the SAT/ACT but taking both never hurts.

Placement :

While browsing LinkedIn, I noticed many employment connections between the students and their original internships of choice that had been posted on a handshake. So they would often times complete an internship and end up getting hired after graduating which I find really awesome. I think we have really good job opportunities since we are a tight-knit campus.

Internship :

Yes. We use an external site called Handshake to find internships in conjunction with the college. There is a career planning center on campus that also helps to link students to internships and jobs which has been very helpful so far.

Events :

Fox day- on the nicest day of spring each year, classes get canceled and the entire campus goes outside and has a picnic. This is a really fun way to keep us looking forward to getting through the spring semester.

Fees :

Some fees included student ID fees, parking fees, I am a music student so we had fees associated with that as well. Lab fees are mandatory for certain levels of biology and chemistry.

Scholarship :

You are automatically considered for a scholarship upon applying to the college but there are external scholarships to apply to as well such as music scholarships, Bonner scholarships, Hamilton Holt scholarships, etc.

Examination Structure :

Every professor varies. We are such a small institution so professors can really put their own spin on things which I prefer over having the same structure for every class. It keeps me engaged and forces me to use different strategies to learn and understand the material

Faculty :

The faculty has been pleasant to work with so far. They do the best they can to bring what we need to the table. Any time that I've had trouble with the classes, they've been willing to meet with me and set up appointments.

Hostel :

I live off campus in a shared apartment. That was the most affordable route for me. Rollins is private so on-campus housing tends to be a bit pricey. Living off campus saves me a total of 2,000 dollars a semester.
