UCSB has a great reputation and a diverse student body. Its campus is located right on the beach and students are friendly and fun. There is a good party scene as well as great academics and there is always something to do around campus.
Course Curriculum :
The curriculum is challenging. There is definitely no such thing as an easy A at this school. In my major especially, it's hard to even pass classes and I have had to retake a few classes. However, if you are disciplined and work hard you should be able to graduate.
Exams :
I took the SAT, the ACT, and the SAT subject test for chemistry. I also took multiple AP exams.
Placement :
I know a lot of graduating seniors who have gone on to great jobs after graduation. I fear for my job opportunities following graduation because the school won't just give you opportunities, you have to do everything on your own.
Internship :
Yes, I secured an internship with CCBER, the Cheadle Center for Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration. I had to work 60 hours a quarter in a lab and in the field and I received a $400 stipend.
Events :
We have a few events that are specific to our school. One of the biggest is Extravaganza, a free concert for all students featuring big artists who perform on our soccer field. Another event is Deltopia, a block party that occurs on the first Saturday of the spring quarter every year.
Fees :
Tuition, room, and board, textbook fees, lab fees. Student fees that go towards bus pass, Rec center memberships, and funding the school newspaper.
Scholarship :
I received some financial aid from filling out the FAFSA. Other than that I haven't gotten any scholarships.
Examination Structure :
Most exams either consist of multiple choice, free response, or both. A lot of math and chemistry exams are all free response so you have the opportunity to receive partial credit on some problems.
Faculty :
There is a good mix of faculty. Some professors are incredible.
Hostel :
I lived in the dorms my freshman year, as everyone is required to do that. I lived in an apartment my sophomore year and a house my junior year. I prefer the dorms the most because it's a great way to make friends and there?s a meal plan so you don't have to cook for yourself. A lot of students in Greek life end up living in their sorority or fraternity house.
