One of the primary reasons I chose to attend UW was because the faculty of the Neuroscience department is highly ranked and regarded throughout the nation. UW has a strong research infrastructure which suited my interests and career prospects. The location also played a significant role in my decision as I preferred living in a city rather than a college town. Being a public university, the tuition was also reasonable compared to private universities. Additionally, other students from my high school also chose to go to UW which gave me further confidence in my choice.

Course Curriculum :

Operating in the quarter system, the course curriculum is very rigorous and challenging. Nevertheless, UW offers a diverse range of courses which gives students plenty of opportunities to explore interests. However, UW accepts a small fraction of students as direct admits, therefore, getting into desired major is very competitive and introductory courses are challenging. Having a large faculty and being located in a commercial city, research and industrial opportunities are plenty but placements are often competitive.

Exams :

Admission requirements included high school scores from grade 9-12, SAT/ACT scores (minimum 28) and TOEFL for international students (above 90 preferred) My scores: ACT 34/36 TOEFL 112/120

Placement :

Seattle is base for several multinational companies, including Microsoft, google and Amazon, therefore, job and networking opportunities are excellent. UW is also affiliated with several other research organisations which present opportunities in every discipline

Events :

UW has several opportunities for extra-curricular activities, including sports, clubs and professional societies in almost every field. Moreover, UW has a large Greek community which is a vital component of student life. The facilities are accessible, resourceful and well-maintained. Research facilities have state of the art infrastructure.

Scholarship :

No

Faculty :

The faculty at UW comprises of distinguished experts who are experienced and approachable. Student to faculty ratio is 21:1. A professor that has had a lasting impact on me is my Lab PI, Dr. Azadeh Yazdan Shahmorad who has guided me in many professional and personal aspects.

Hostel :

I did live on campus for 2 years. UW offers single, double, triple and apartments. I lived in a triple which was priced at 2700 dollars per quarter excluding food.
