Univ of West Florida's Review by Ashley

7.8 /10

Good distance from home meaning it was close enough to go home or my Mom could visit if needed, but just far enough away to not be home constantly. Also, it was cheaper than FSU and I liked the city more.

Course Curriculum :

Needs more hands-on elements focusing on doing the work and not just research. It has a heavy European focus and how to do a research-based curriculum. I've taken classes in other majors to try to get more experience I feel that I need to succeed.

Exams :

I took the ACT twice in high school. I took the MAT 3 times to get into graduate school. The third time I received a 409.

Placement :

Not sure yet. Supposedly for some majors, they are good, but I am not sure how they are with mine. I'm guessing most become teachers, but I do not want to do that. Hopefully, they will be able to help me get a job.

Internship :

Yes. University Archives, but no stipend. I had to pay $2600 to work 300 hours and get credit. I love the archives and the people there. I have learned a lot about how it runs, what to do, how to catalogs and edit and whatnot.

Events :

There are lots of events like events to prevent abuse, and fashion shows, Jesus jams, and many more. My favorite is Cab After Dark which is like an end of the year party before finals with free food and whatnot.

Fees :

I'm not sure, I know we had one, but I do not recall the amount. I know there are a technology fee and a Nautilus Card fee that you pay every year. The Nautilus card fee you have to pay no matter what but if you want a new card you have to pay again.

Scholarship :

Yes, the university set up a portal of sorts to apply for mass amounts at once. Others listed you had to do individually.

Examination Structure :

It varies greatly from teacher to teacher. For final exams, there is a set schedule, if the teacher decides to follow it. In history, it is a lot of essay tests or block answers while psychology was mostly scantron.

Faculty :

They are very helpful and understanding.

Hostel :

I lived on campus in a 2 bedroom apartment and I lived it. Great RAs with free food programs, but at a certain point I could no longer afford it so I loved back home and became a commuter student driving 2.5 hours.
