Kaitlin Review at Hunter College, New York City | Collegedunia

The college provided the best programs.

6.8 /10

Good English programs as well as teaching programs which I was at a time considering pursuing and it offered affordable tuition that my financial aid covered. It was an easily accessible and beautiful location in the city.

Course Curriculum :

I think that the concentrations for the English literature language and criticism major could use some more leniency because I ended up taking some classes I was a lot less interested in just because they fit certain criteria, and I felt I missed out on taking more classes I was interested in.

Exams :

SATs with a score of 1110 cumulative but I never did take the ACT or any other university-level exam. However, I entered as a transfer student so I'm not sure my scores were considered at all.

Fees :

For in-state tuition, I believe it is around 3500 per semester or possibly less which isn't very expensive for anyone who has to pay out of pocket or possibly take out loans. Financial aid covered my tuition in full which it wouldn't do at other schools. Also, CUNY gives you ample time to pay your bill before they drop you.

Scholarship :

Yes, I filled out the FAFSA to receive financial aid and have also received both need-based and merit-based scholarships through both the school directly and CUNY.

Faculty :

It is a bit of a melting pot and most of my experience lies within the English department. Many of my literature professors have been rather brilliant and taught me a lot. Some are a bit strict. My creative writing professors have been a mix as well. Some are really helpful and some are a lot more hands-off. My French professors have been mostly disappointing, aside from one.

Hostel :

I lived off-campus both in Brooklyn and queens and the commute was not too bad from either location. The dorms I believe are located nearby the school with others being further uptown as far as Harlem.
