At Mills, you?ll be encouraged to explore the unknown and exercise your imagination. Creative, interactive classes will introduce you to a wide range of dance techniques and choreographic methods as well as history and theory. Among the many forms you can study at Mills are African-Haitian, ballet, contact improvisation, jazz, and screendance.

Your professors will include dance scholars, choreographers, and performers. All are devoted mentors who will foster your unique talents as you progress to advanced levels of technical training and build your knowledge of choreography and theory. You?ll also have the opportunity to learn from guest artists who offer master classes on campus and choreograph for the Mills Repertory Dance Company?s public performances. Past artists have included experimental dance pioneers Anna Halprin and Yvonne Rainer.

Throughout your studies, you?ll be encouraged to stage your own work and collaborate with professors, visiting artists, and other students on a variety of performance opportunities, from the Mills Repertory Dance Company to concerts featuring undergraduate work. If you major in dance, your senior year will conclude with a public presentation of your choreography. When you graduate, you?ll be ready for a career in dance education, performance, choreography, or arts administration.?
