IIM Amritsar MBA Admission Criteria 2023
IIM Amritsar offers 2-year full-time residential MBA as its flagship programme. Apart form MBA, the institute also offers MBA in Businees Analytics (BA) and MBA in Human Resources (HR) for a duration of 2 years. The minimum eligibility for all the programmes is a Bachelor’s degree with 50% marks (45% fro SC/ST/PWD).
IIM Amritsar MBA Selection Criteria
Admission to MBA, MBA (BA) & MBA (HR) is a two-stage selection process that involves a minimum category-wise valid score in CAT followed by Personal Interview for the shortlisted candidates.
Initially, the candidates have to take the CAT exam conducted at the All India level. The candidates have to secure a minimum sectional cut off assigned for each category in order to get shortlisted for the next stage of the admission process.
Stage I: Shortlisting the candidates for PI
Candidates who have secured the pre-determined minimum percentile score in each section and the overall score of CAT will be shortlisted for the PI round. Candidates obtaining a positive raw score in all the sections of the CAT will only be considered.

NOTE: The candidate’s percentage score in 10th and 12th board exams is initially adjusted by dividing each subscore by the 90th percentile score obtained in their particular board. The same criteria is followed for calculating the score for the Bachelor’s degree.

The above-mentioned process facilitates the preparation of the ranking list according to which a number of candidates will be called for the PI, conducted by IIM Amritsar based on the order of their rank.
Stage II: Personal Interview
- All the shortlisted cnaiddates will be required to appear in Personal Interview. The Admission Committee will evaluate the candidate’s academic background, quality of work experience and other personal traits.
- Pre-PI scores and PI scores will be used cumulatively in the final phase to select the candidates for the program.
- The final selection will be based on the merit list which will be prepared on the basis of the following:
For the selection process, all the parameters and weights will remain uniform for all the candidates. Sufficient candidates will be shortlisted at each stage from each social category to meet the reservation requirement of each group.
The aggregate score for each candidate is calculated based on the following formula- Aggregate Score = 0.6 X Pre-PI Score + 0.4 X Post-PI Score

She did not let her low grades discourage her and she strived hard to get a great CAT score. Don’t let your past affect your future prospects. Put your 100% effort and you will definitely get what you deserve. As far as her graduation score is concerned, not many scored above 8 GPA. So her 7 GPA wasn’t that bad. In class 12th also, most of the IIMs compare a score of 80 in the Assam board to an 80 in the Andhra board or CBSE. Engineers also face an academic diversity issue. So they need a higher percentile than other graduates. Nowadays IIMs are converting CAT percentiles to the percentage for the CAT weightage component. So, the gap between the 99 and 95 percentile stoops down to 2 points for 50 % CAT weightage. Had the CAT scores been taken, the gap would have been 10–12 points. Hence it makes candidates with low academic profiles difficult to get into IIM. Fortunately, my cousin was lucky enough to get admission as a GEM fresher with an average profile.

- The Average package is almost similar to the 2 colleges ( IIM Amritsar- INR 14.63 LPA and XIMB- INR 15.42 LPA). So when compared to the fees XIMB has a lower ROI than IIM Amritsar.
