NIT Mizoram Ph.D Admission 2023: Dates, Eligibility, Placement, Entrance Exam

NIT Mizoram Ph.D. Admission 2023 is ongoing for July-December 2023. The final list of selected candidates will be declared on May 3, 2023, and such candidates will then be required to pay the admission fee by June 2-7, 2023. The classes for the session will commence on August 1, 2023.

National Institute Of Technology, Mizoram provides the Ph.D. program in Computer science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English, etc. NIT Mizoram offers a total of 9 courses broadly divided into three categories: Engineering, Science and Humanities, and social sciences under its Ph.D. program. The course work is divided into 4 semesters. The Ph.D. program is offered for 9 different courses namely, Engineering, Electronics, Communication Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and Social Sciences.

• The minimum eligibility is to have a Master’s Degree in a relevant stream with 60% marks.
• Candidates must have qualified GATE or NET with sufficient scores 
• Or the students can also appear for a written test conducted by the NIT Mizoram for taking admission into this college

NIT Mizoram Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

Applicants just are qualified in one of the following:

For Ph.D in Engineering

• Master’s Degree in the area of Engineering/Technology (ME/MTech/MSc etc) from a Recognized University/ Institute with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale or 60% of marks in the qualifying examinations. (GATE/NET not required) 

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in a relevant area with a minimum CGPA of 7.5 or 70% of marks and with a valid GATE score. The requirement of valid GATE score shall apply to only those who seek admission under Full-time Category. 

• 3rd Year BTech students from NIT Mizoram on completion of their 3rd year (6th semester) with CGPA 8.0 and above are eligible for admission for PhD program in Regular Category. The candidates will be waived from the requirement of GATE/NET and will be provided Institute Fellowship as Full-time Regular Category students for 5 years for completion of PhD. Also a submission of a high level research proposal in the proposed research area is required in line with the research area of concerned Supervisor.

For Ph.D. in Science (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics): 

Master’s degree in the area of Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics from a recognized University/ Institute with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale or 60% of marks in the qualifying examinations. GATE/NET scores are not required. 

For Ph.D. in HSS (Economics/English):

Master’s degree in Economics/English from a recognized University/ Institute with a minimum CGPA of 6.0 in 10 point scale or 55 % marks in the qualifying examinations. GATE/NET scores are not required.

For admissions into the Ph.D. program the students are required to follow the below-mentioned steps:

Necessary Steps to take admission in NIT Mizoram

• Aspirants have to visit the official website of NIT Mizoram, download the application form, and fill in all the necessary details.
• While filling the admission forms students are required to pre-select their research area for their Ph.D. program. 
• Submit the application form.

Admission Procedure 

• Admission to the Ph.D. program of the Institute normally takes place in January/July sessions every year. 
• Admission to all categories of students is granted on the basis of a written test and interview held usually during the month of January / July every year. 
• The following documents are to be furnished along with the application by candidates falling under Sponsored, Project Fellow, Part-time and External categories: 
• Form I: Sponsorship letter for the Sponsored category. Form II: No objection certificate from the Institute. 
•  Form III: No objection certificate from the employer. 
• Form IV: Sponsorship certificate for External category. 
• Form V: No objection certificate for NIT Mizoram Employee. 

Documents Required:

Candidates shall carry the following documents at the time of admission:

• Printout of the Registration form.
• Provisional Seat allotment letter printout
• Document Verification Certificate issued from the Reporting Center.
• Valid JEE Main/GATE scorecard.
• Photo ID proof as per Govt. of India norms. 
• Class X (High School) Board Certificate as proof of date of birth.
• Mark Sheet of Class XII
• 10th, 12th, and graduation Mark Sheets
• Category certificate.
• Certificate for Persons with Disabilities (PwD), if applicable.
• Proof of seat acceptance fee.

NIT Mizoram Ph.D. Admission Guidelines

The Ph.D. Program at NIT Mizoram is offered in 9 specializations broadly divided into three streams: Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Social Sciences, The courses are mentioned below:

Course Curriculum:

• A student of Engineering/Technology/Science/Humanities & Social Sciences Department with an entry-level qualification of a two-year master’s degree registers for a minimum of 4 (four) courses amounting to at least 24 credits and has to obtain a CGPA of at least 6.5 on a 10 point scale.
• A student is expected to complete all course work requirements within two semesters by registering for at least two courses in the first semester. In each semester, the CGPA should not be less than 6.0 on a 10 point scale.
• After successful completion of the Synopsis Seminar, the students are required to submit their thesis.
• Within three months of the acceptance of the synopsis by the DC, the students have to submit five (or six, if there are two supervisors) copies of/her thesis in prescribed format to the Academic Section along with a soft copy of the thesis.
