As per the courses offered by University of Gour Banga Research department, candidates can opt for a specific course from a variety of specializations available. Students interested in the Ph.D. course can apply for any of the 16 departments including Arabic, Botany, Mathematics, Chemistry etc.

  • Students from abroad who wish to apply for the University programme may first produce clearance from the Govt. of India or any govt. aided authority with an authorized research visa for applying in the course.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Candidates grabbing a minimum score of 55% in Master’s Degree, -5% for reserved category shall be eligible to apply.
  • Candidates holding any degree affiliated from the UGB or of any other University related to M.Sc., Engineering and other science related course degrees that are recognized by the University Grants Commission are eligible to apply. The same or any other related subject in which the Master’s Degree is offered may be applied for in the Ph.D. programme.
  • Students from abroad who wish to apply for the University programme may first produce clearance from the Govt. of India or any govt. aided authority with an authorized research visa for applying in the course.

University of Gour Banga Ph.D Admission Process

Candidates must follow certain guidelines before and after filling up of application form in order to carry forward the admission process:-

  • Students must submit all the required testimonies related with age, qualification and experience that have to attested by any Govt. aided institution along with 2 recent passport size photographs to the Registrar Office.
  • Four self-addressed unstamped envelopes of size 10”X 4” must be enclosed and carried at the time of admission.
  • Any form with incomplete information or non-prescribed application form shall not be entertained under any circumstances and the admission for the respective student will be cancelled.
  • Students must write the “Name of the Subject of the M. Phil. Programme applied for:” on the envelope.
  • The application fee is non-refundable.
  • Candidates working as or under Govt. service have to submit a Non-Objection Certificate (NOC) during the admission.
  • For claiming of quota (SC/ST/OBC), concerned students must submit a proof of their reserved category along with the application form.
  • Students who already have an M.Phil. 2 years regular degree is not allowed to apply for the Ph.D. programme. 
  • All the expenses due for the course work/ research work have to be carried out by the students itself as per the norms and conditions.

How To Apply?

Candidates can choose from up to 17 courses according to their interest and priority in from affiliated colleges of University of Gaur Banga by applying for the entrance test as per the norms. 

Step 1: Registration

  • Candidates have to register themselves through the Online Application Form.
  • To fill the application form and collect information regarding issue of admit card for M.Phil. programme. After filling up of the form, candidates have to submit the form along with a Demand Draft of Rs. 500/- (Rs.300/- for reserved category) in favor of “University of Gour Bangaat UBI, UGB Branch, Malda.
  • Eligible candidates may appear for the entrance test for the concerned course.

Step 2: Entrance Test

M.Phil. Entrance Test Details

  • Duration: 1 hr 30 mins (from 12p.m. to 1.30p.m).
  • The test will be of 100 marks comprising of 80 MCQ questions (40 compulsory) & 20 subjective questions
  • Minimum cutoff marks for the examination is 50%
  • Syllabus is same as that of PG exams of UGB.

Ph.D. Entrance Test Details

  • Duration: 1 hr 30 mins (from 12p.m. to 1.30p.m.).
  • The test will be of 100 marks comprising of 50 MCQ questions (all compulsory), 2 marks each with 1/3 –ve marking.
  • Syllabus is as per the NET (subject wise).

Note: Students should report 30 mins before the start of the exam.

Step 3: Interview  

Candidates will be selected for Interviews/Viva-voce on the basis of the marks obtained in the written test.
