What students say about University of Calcutta

Likes

  • The campus life is very good and I want to be a part of this for the rest of my 5 years course
  • There is nothing that I don't like anything about my college because my college is very good
  • It's is very good experience because I want to be a part of this
  • This is one of the best university in our state ,Having good faculty of studying all courses courses.
  • Have a chance to achieve a good goal for your life.
  • We get an interval of 6 months which is good .
  • I liked the ambience of the college.. well maintained by officials.... teaching skill is good

Dislike

  • Unfortunately, I dislike the course structure because it is not up-to-date. For instance, our department does not teach network systems. Additionally, currently trending subjects like Arduino and IoT are not included. However, once you reach the research level, the condition is not as bad.
  • Its just M.Sc. based, so there are no jobs or placements. Although some companies come, they only hire a few students, usually one or two. Our college does not provide internships. After M.Sc., you can also pursue a Ph.D. from here.
  • Merit cum means scholarships are provided for poor and meritorious students, enabling them to receive a stipend based on their fathers income. Additionally, poor students are granted either a half or full waiver of tuition fees. Financial constraints do not hinder access to education in this system.
  • Food is served twice and is done by external agencies, but its quality and quantity are not good.
  • Negative remarks on the useless canteen and the poor communication facilities as they are extremely bad.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I had an interest in politics so I chose political science honors as a subject. Good faculty is available, there are 5 teachers for 27 students. All the teachers are PHDs. The exams were always on time and the difficulty level was based on if you study well or not.

Remarks:

One is eligible for the admission after 12th, admission form is available online on the college website. The admission list should be a tad quicker is an improvement I'd like to see. Overall admission was quite easy and hassle-free.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I was looking to do bcom hons as I was a commerce student in my school. Calcutta University is one of the renowned universities in our country so I choose to do bcom hons. Faculty to student ratio is about 1: 150. All of the faculty teachers are well qualified to do their jobs and does their best to teach us. There are only semester exams conducted which happen after every 6 months.

Remarks:

The admission process was very easy. You have to collect the admission form and admission will be done according to your 12th grade. Admission will be done in batches. Firstly those who've good grades will get priority.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have chosen B.com(Hons.) because I was interested in accounting and finance. I am in the Day batch of b.com, faculties are average, some part time teachers are better than the full-time teachers, each subject will be taught by 3-4 teachers. If your parents are paying fees for college than don't take admission, it will completely be a waste of their hard-earned money. For b.com(Hons.) it's 33000 fees + 400-500( semester exam fees which are higher than the actual exam fees taken by the University of Calcutta, they charge a commission over it like 100-200 from each student). The ratio of the student's attendance is 2:5. I will rate faculties 4 out of 10. There is no air conditioning inside the classes and Library. More than half of the common rooms are also locked. In the name of sports, there is only a basketball court which is not in good condition.

Remarks:

Eligibility of the course: must score 60% or more in 12th standard. You can find the form on the website of the college itself. There is no entrance examination like that to take admission to this college.

Placement Experience:

From semester 5 students become eligible for campus placements. The companies that recently visited our college for campus placements are TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES. Almost 88 per cent were offered jobs. The highest package was 40000 And the average was 25000.

Remarks:

Eligibility for the course is that you have to get at least 80 per cent in the 12th board exam. The application form can be found on the college website and all information relating to college fees and application date is placed on the college website. No, I have not received any reservation benefit.

Placement Experience:

From 3rd year i.e. 5th semester, students are eligible for campus placements. Various companies like Big four, itc, Microsoft, amazon, google, jio, and Tata visit the college every year and a number of offers are made by them. The highest package has gone to 10-15 lakhs per annum and the average package is 5 lakhs per annum. 90% of students of the college are getting placements. My plans after getting the degree from college are to visit different places like Bangalore, Pune, and Delhi for further studies.

Remarks:

After the results of class 12 boards, the form for admission in bhawanipur opens. You just need to fill up the form with all the details correctly and submit it. After approval, your name will come to the merit list.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course I pursued was B.com (honors), which constitutes 6 semesters in general. The minimum mark to pass a subject is 28. The college comes under the University of Calcutta and follows all its guidelines of it. The faculty is really helpful and encouraging.

Remarks:

After giving my 12th board, I filled out an online application form for my admission to Tara Devi Jain College from their official website only. then, I got my name on the merit list, and Cut off was 45%. There is no entrance exam to take admission to the college.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placement in the sixth semester. Numerous offers were made from companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Google, Microsoft, Deloitte, HDFC bank, etc. The highest salary was 800k and the lowest was 100k.

Remarks:

I applied to the college directly through its official website and got admission after my name popped into the merit list. There are no application fees and dates vary. Reservation benefits were sufficient.
