IIM Trichy provides a full-time Doctoral program in the field of Management. Currently, there are 24 students enrolled in the Ph.D. program. The institute also provides an executive Doctoral Programme. It is a non-residential program designed especially for executives or working professionals. 

The program is offered in the fields of Information Systems, Marketing, Finance and Accounting, Public Policy, and Economics. For admission into the FPM program, Students need to sit for an entrance examination along with the interview. Admission into the E-DPM course is based on evaluating the applications of the candidate.

IIM Trichy DPM Eligibility Criteria

Candidates pursuing any one of the following qualifications after completion of class 12 are eligible for the program:

FPM Program: 

  • Master’s degree in any discipline with an aggregate score of 60 percent along with the 50 percent aggregate marks in the graduation along in any field.
  • A 4-year graduate program with a CGPA score of 8 or more.
  • Integrated Master’s degree in any discipline with an aggregate score of 60 percent or more.
  • A professional qualification like CA/ICWS/CS with an aggregate of 50 percent along with 60 percent in Bachelor’s program.
  • Candidates who have qualified NET/UGC-JRF/CAT/GMAT from the date of two years of the examination are also eligible.
  • Candidates sitting for the final examination of graduation are also eligible to apply. The condition is to produce the certificate before admission.

E-FPM Course:

  • Candidates who are Full-time working professionals, Interested in applying for research along with the professional experience of at least 10 years are eligible to apply for the program.

The admissions into IIM Trichy entrance-based. The entrance exams accepted are NET/UGC-JRF/CAT/GMAT. 

How to Apply? 

The process involved the following stages:

  • Candidates need to fill the application form along with the submission of all the qualification details required.
  • Based upon the shortlisting of candidates, a Research Aptitude Examination will be held for the selected candidates.
  • After the entrance examination, candidates need to appear for the Interview as per the schedule.
  • Candidates would be shortlisted again upon the marks scored combined in the entrance exam and interview.
  • The last step for the selection procedure is the interview with the Fellowship Committee. 

Candidates clearing this last stage of the selection procedure will be sent the offer letter for the Doctorate Program in IIM Trichy.

IIM Trichy Reservation Policy

IIM Trichy follows reservation as per the policies followed by the Indian Government. Under doctoral programs, Scheduled Castes categories get 15% seats, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes, 27% for Non-Creamy OBC Layer, 10% for Economically Weaker Sections, and 5% for Persons with Disabilities.

Candidates with a PGDM degree from any of the IIMs or PGPBM from IIM Trichy will be exempted from taking the eligibility examination-CAT, GRE, UGC-JRF. The condition underlying this policy is to have scored at least 2.6/4.33 CGPA or should have completed the Diploma in 5 years.

IIM Trichy DPM Course Details

IIM Trichy offers Doctorate programs only in the Management field. There are 6 specializations offered by the institute in Doctor of Philosophy degree. The specializations offered in the doctorate programs are mentioned in the table below:

The program is designed to get completed in 5 years. In the first 18 months, candidates are required to complete the general coursework in the field of Management. Students must attain at least 54 credits in the program. During vacation time, it is compulsory to write research papers for the first and second year respectively which will hold a total of 6 credits.

Candidates need to clear their CQECs without which they cannot move further in the research field. Comprehensive Qualifying Examinations are conducted by the respective department of the specialization. CQE has 3 important stages: a written examination, viva voice, and submission of the Research Paper. 

Students who have completed their PGDM from the IIM are exempted from Waiver provided that a candidate has secured a CGPA of 2.55/4.33 or equivalent. Candidates who have completed the MBA from other institutes can apply for course-wise waivers.

For E-FPM program: Candidates need to complete 10-12 classrooms and 2 distance mode courses in the 4 terms of 6 months. A minimum of 3.0 CGPA score is required to appear for the CQE. The thesis proposal has to be made due before the 30th of every month and a seminar once in each semester.

IIM Trichy DPM/ PhD Placements

IIM Trichy offers direct placements to students in many renowned companies with attractive packages. Companies like Reserve Bank of India, Yes Bank, Fossil, Tafe, Mrurugappa, Virtusa, HP, etc. are the top recruiters for the institute. 

In addition to it, Financial Support is also provided to the students undergoing Doctorate programs in the institute. Students receive a full waiver from tuition and hostel expenses. A monthly stipend of Rs. 30,000/- is also provided to students after passing their Comprehensive Qualifying Examinations for the first two years and then Rs. 36,000/- per month up to the fourth year.

Ques. What are the important documents for IIM Trichy PhD?

Ans. Candidates claiming reservation must submit the valid category certificate as the format prescribed by the institute and must be signed by the Tehsildar and not lower than that.

Ques. Does fees payment for IIM Trichy PhD have to be done via online mode or demand draft?

Ans. Fees payment must be done via online mode only through Netbanking/Debit Card/Credit Card. Demand Draft is not accepted by the institute.

Ques. Do candidates undergoing the E-FPM course also get a fee waiver?

Ans. Only candidates going FPM courses are allowed for fee and hostel waiver. E-DPM students have to make the fee payment.

Ques. Is it compulsory for IIM Trichy PhD aspirants to have appeared for UGC-JRF/CAT/GRE?

Ans. If you have completed your PGPM from any of the IIM, then you have an exemption from appearing in the examination of JRF/CAT/GRE.
