Calicut University BTech Eligibility Criteria

Aspirants seeking admissions to BTech courses of Calicut University must satisfy the below mentioned eligibility criteria:

BTech Direct Entry:

  • Candidates must have completed 10+2 in Science stream with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and Biology/ Computer Science/ Chemistry/ Biotechnology as elective subjects from recognized institutes.
  • Candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in Mathematics separately and 50% aggregate marks in PCM when combined together. 
  • Candidates who have obtained 45% marks in Mathematics separately and with 60% aggregate marks in Physics and Chemistry put together are also eligible for admissions.
  • A relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks is provided to SEBC and PD candidates.

BTech Lateral Entry: 

  • In case of lateral entry admissions, candidates must have completed a 3 years Diploma in Engineering course in respective specializations from State Board of Technical Examinations, Kerala or equivalent.
  • Candidates must have scored at least 50% marks in aggregate in diploma examinations.

Calicut University BTech Admission Process

  • Calicut University accepts either national level or state level entrance exam scores for admissions to BTech courses.
  • Direct Entry admissions are based on scores obtained by the candidates in KEAM conducted by CEE Kerala or JEE Mains whereas lateral entry admissions are granted on the basis of DTE Kerala LTE.
  • Applicants are shortlisted on the basis of the cut-off set by the administration every year.
  • The final selection is based on the candidate’s combined performance in KEAM/ JEE Mains/ Kerala LTE scores and past academic records.
  • Candidates who meet the above mentioned criterias will further be required to appear for KEAM and CAP counselling.

KEAM Entrance Exam

  • KEAM is a state level entrance exam conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examination (CEE), under the Government of Kerala. 
  • It is a paper based exam conducted in offline mode which comprises Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects and is conducted once a year.
  • A total of 120 MCQs are set in each paper and the weightage is 480 marks per paper.
  • Four marks are awarded for each correct answer and one mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
  • The duration of this exam is 2 hours and 30 minutes.

DTE Kerala LET

  • LET is a state level entrance exam conducted by Directorate of Technical Education particularly for admissions to lateral entry courses offered in the state.
  • The entrance comprises two parts and Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics, IT and Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and English as subjects.
  • The weightage given to each subject differs while the marks awarded to each section is 120.

  • BTech at Calicut University is offered in specializations, namely, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Production Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Printing Technology, Automobile Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering.

Program Structure

  • Course Structure: The maximum duration granted to complete the BTech course is 8 years. The minimum number of working days in combined first and second semesters shall be 150 days. In 3rd to 8th semesters, there shall be a minimum 75 working days. The scheme and syllabi of first and second year is the same for all branches whereas from 3rd semester onwards, students will be required to study core courses of the respective branch only.
  • Attendance: Candidates must maintain at least 75% attendance in the entire coursework in order to eligible for end term examinations
  • Assessments: Students are assessed on the basis of their performance in internal examinations, assignments such as home work, problem solving, group discussions, quiz, literature survey, seminar, term-project, software exercises etc.
  • Evaluation: The marks allotted for internal continuous assessment and end-semester university examinations are 50 and 100 respectively with a maximum of 150 marks for each theory subject. Candidates must maintain a minimum CGPA of 6.5 in order to be eligible for the degree.
  • End Term Examinations: Candidates who secure not less than 40% marks in end term examinations will be considered to pass in that semester. During the final year of course work, students are provided with elective courses where they can select courses of their own choice.
