IIT Guwahati has two girls’ hostels namely Subansiri and Dhansiri.
Subansiri Hostel: Named after the largest tributary of the Brahmaputra, this hostel was Inaugurated in 2003. The occupants are research scholars, UGs, and PGs. It houses more than 50O students and has all the necessary amenities to make its occupants feel at home. Some amenities include - Canteen, Juice center, TV room, Library, Badminton court, TT table, and more.
These will help you get a break from the academic rush. Various events like the hostel day, freshers' party, farewell, and the world cups, make the hostel life dynamic and lively.
Dhansiri: This hostel is quite similar to Subansiri although it was inaugurated in 2014. The only difference is that Dhansiri is far away from the academic building while Subansiri is closer to the academic building.
Common things include a LAN cable in each room and double occupancy rooms.
Yes, parents are allowed in the hostels of IIT Guwahati at the time of registration. Parents visit their children to help unpack their stuff and organize them,
However, parents are not allowed to spend the night at hostels and thus ask your parents to book a hotel to avoid any sort of inconvenience. Usually, the rules in the girls' hostel are more strict than the boys' hostel and only mothers are allowed inside their hostels.
What you can do is, book a hotel room for your Prerna on tracing Guwahati. There are many hotels near the railway station. After completing the registration and accommodation formalities, let your parents go back to their hotel while you can stay in your room for the night. You can have lunch together by paying at the hostel mess.

By ‘outside the hostel’ you can mean two things; inside the campus or outside the campus. Well, I am here to talk about both scenarios:
Inside campus
For boys, there is no deadline and they can stroll through the campus even after midnight. Many boys like taking a walk at night and listening to their favorite music. However, girls are expected to return to their hostels before midnight, or else they have to do a late entry. The warden may or may not take action against this.
Outside the campus
Students are not allowed to stay outside the campus later than 10 30. The faculty in charge may be informed in case of any rules not being followed.
Lost essential commodities can easily be bought from the market nearby. However, if you don’t wish to purchase, carry the following necessary items

IIT Guwahati has 14 hostels in total. Every student is offered a single room (or a double occupancy room at times). The rooms are in good condition, and have all the necessary facilities like a fan, a study table, electrical ports, and proper lighting.
Out of the 14 hostels at IIT Guwahati, 2 are Girls’ Hostels and 11 are Boys’ Hostels. IIT Guwahati also has 1 separate hostel for married Phd. students. This hostel has 170 rooms.
The hostels at IIT Guwahati not only provide a proper learning atmosphere, but they also offer recreational facilities like a common/TV room, sports facilities, indoor games facilities (chess, carom, table tennis, etc.) so that the students can enjoy, play games and spend some leisure time.
IITG has several libraries, and Lakshminath Bezbaroa Central Library is the main library. This library is a 4-storey fully air-conditioned building with a high speed WLAN facility.

There is no difference in the hostel fees for 1st year or older students. All students are required to pay the fee according to the fee structure provided by the institute. Brahmaputra, Disang, Lohit and Umiam are the hostels that are generally provided to 1st year students at IIT Guwahati.
