The study of sociology at Teesside University is framed in the local with a global focus, giving a grounded context of modern life. It addresses historical and contemporary issues and investigates topics such as work, social diversities, social inequalities, leisure and youth, and social exclusion.
This degree encourages students to think critically about the world in which they live. An understanding of people and their interactions equips students to explore our lives and our experiences, and ask whether governments and social policies can improve the lives of ordinary people.
As well as acquiring a good foundation of knowledge of sociological theories, students can specialize in areas as diverse as globalization, gender, social media, and social policy in context.
Many of the skills students gain as a sociologist are valued by employers and the vocationally orientated modules on offer enable you to explain, analyze and intervene within contemporary social and political issues.

Academic Eligibility:

A typical offer is 80-104 tariff points from at least two A levels (or equivalent).
The University welcomes applications from mature students without conventional entry requirements. They take into account any alternative qualifications or other experience they may have.
Students can gain considerable knowledge from work, volunteering, and life. Under recognition of prior learning (RPL) they may be awarded credit for this which can be credited towards the course they want to study.
A minimum grade of 60% is required for introductory courses and a 60% overall average in all courses required for the certificate.
Proof of English proficiency may be required for international applicants, whose first language is not English.
Students must be qualified in IELTS or TOEFL to get admission to this program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Students required to passed Class 12th with a percentage of 70-72% (Major), 78-82% (Honours) from one of the following boards:
- All India School Certificate (CBSE)
- Indian School Certificate (CISCE)
If English is not the students’ first language then they must provide proof of English competency.
