7.5 /10

University of Edinburgh is highly reputed for CS, Artificial Intelligence and Medicine. Since my program lies at the intersection of the three, UoE was the perfect choice. According to https://csrankings.org/ University of Edinburgh is the highest ranked university in UK for AI research.

Course Curriculum :

The curriculum provides a mix of courses from different areas such as artificial intelligence, computer science, biology, bioinformatics and responsible research. The courses also include a group project and an individual project that allow you to work with different faculty members at the University of Edinburgh.

Exams :

My GRE score was 318 and my IELTS score was 8.0. The minimum requirements for IELTS are total 6.5 with at least 6.0 in each component while GRE is optional for this program.

Biomedical artificial intelligence is in very high demand these days. Major tech companies such as Google, Microsoft and Facebook are heavily investing in this domain and all have their offices in the UK. Moreover, many startups are emerging every year in medical AI domain. Government health services such as NHS has developed a separate unit NHS-X dedicated to adopting AI in medicine. All these provide great employment opportunities.

Internship :

The program has partnerships with many leading organizations that actively recruit students for internships and employment.

Fees :

The entire tuition fee of my program is covered by the university. Hence the tuition fee is £0.

Scholarship :

Every student selected for the CDT Biomedical AI program receives a scholarship from the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh. The scholarship is £15,609/ year for 4 years. The entire tuition fee for 4 years is covered by the university. Funding is open to UK, EU and international students. The scholarship did not require any additional application.

The School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh is one of the biggest informatics schools in Europe with over 400 members actively involved. The students in this program can choose to work with any of the faculties for their projects, research and even PhD. List of faculty members can be found here - https://web.inf.ed.ac.uk/cdt/biomedical-ai/people/supervisors

Campus Life :

The university is spread across the beautiful city of Edinburgh and the school of informatics has access to the best facilities available on campus. Most research in AI requires heavy use of GPUs and each student enrolled in an informatics degree has access to the university GPU cluster. Edinburgh is a very vibrant city with international events taking place throughout the year. All forms of extra-curricular activities such as sports, swimming, archery, etc are available to students.

Hostel :

The university has several accommodations spread throughout the city. Students can choose them based on the location of their department within the city. All accommodations are equipped with WIFI, 24/7 water, heating and electricity. Most postgraduate accommodations have single-rooms but there are options for shared rooms as well.
