Honest review of University of Exeter!

6.2 /10

It was one of the few universities that had a course on Behavioural Economics and Behavioural Finance in the UK. Secondly, it was a Russell Group University (Ivy League equivalent for UK universities). Finally, it was more affordable than other universities that offered this course and they also gave me a scholarship, which was a huge incentive for me financially.

Course Curriculum :

The course curriculum covers traditional economics alongside behavioural economics. Personally I would have liked more behavioural economics, but having both does give you technical skills as well. Some modules like Econometrics I could have been better structured as we learnt a statistical computing software called TSM, which has no existence in the real-world as institutions values statistical softwares like R. However, this was the case as the tutor who was primarily going to handle that module pulled out of that role and was replaced by someone else, who's choice was to teach us TSM.

Exams :

There were no standardised test requirements for myself as I had completed a prior education in the UK before applying for this programme. Although, for freshers, IELTS would be asked for.

Placement :

Well-known companies do visit the campus and advertise their roles. However, students don't get hired in campus, but have to apply individually through the company's application portal. The research opportunity for my programme were very attractive as we could use the FEELE experimental lab to conduct for experimental dissertations.

Internship :

N/A

Fees :

£20,100

Scholarship :

I received a Global Excellence Scholarship worth £5000. To be considered, you had to write an application for the scholarship, which also included writing an essay about your motivations and why you think you deserve the scholarship.

Faculty :

Faculty to student ratio is good and the staffs are very approachable. Dr. Miguel Fonseca is a tutor that left a mark on me and my experience of doing this course. He was also my dissertation supervisor and the programme leader of this course at the time.

Campus Life :

The campus is essentially the 'greenest' campus in the UK and has been awarded for it multiple times. It is huge and very scenic. There are many societies that host a plethora of activities that run around campus all year long.

Hostel :

Accommodations on campus come in different options. Sharing, studios, self-catered, catered, etc., which are priced differently based on how much you get.
