LSEF-UMass scholarship

To help dedicated candidates, universities and foundations provide various scholarships and awards to the meritorious and needy students. One such scheme is the LSEF-UMass Scholarship.

The LSEF-UMass Scholarship is given to those who enroll in a two-year PG course. The candidate will have to study the first year in the Indian host institution, JK Lakshmipat situated in Jaipur and then, the second year at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

  • The LSEF-UMass scholarship is a grant and not a loan for students interested in studying abroad.
  • Selections are based on the aptitude test and academic merit.
  • The LSEF-UMass Scholarship is applicable for only three PG programs at UMass.
  • The Scholarship application is open for the batch commencing in Fall 2020.

LSEF-UMass Scholarships offer up to 50% of the total tuition fees to the selected students.

Eligibility Criteria

To avail the LSEF-UMass Scholarship, the candidates must

  • be a citizen and current resident of India.
  • have completed a minimum of three years of UG course in any discipline from a recognized university in India.
    • Candidates who will complete their graduation before July 2020 are also eligible.
  • have studied mathematics subject up to 12th standard or equivalent qualification.
  • have a minimum score of 75% in all the previous academic qualifications

Applicants must note that tests such as IELTS, TOEFL or GRE are not mandatory for scholarship application.

Eligible Programs

The programs offered by the institute which are eligible for this scholarship are as follows:

  • M.S in Data Analytics and computational social sciences
  • M.S in Resource economics
  • Masters of public policy

Application Process

To apply for the LSEF-UMass Scholarship, candidates must complete the Google form available, which is basically an expression of interest.

After filling the form, the shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit an online application with all the required documents:

  • Previous mark sheets and scores
  • Statement of purpose
  • Letter of recommendation (LOR)

It must be ensured that the details mentioned are not false or problematic. The candidate must fill all the needed details carefully.


Selection Process

The selection is based on the merit scores of candidates as well as the statement of purpose and letter of recommendation provided during the application.

After applying successfully, the candidates will be invited for the Aptitude Test and Personal Interview, if shortlisted.

The interview is conducted by the selection committee, comprising of LSEF and UMass representatives. Preparing competently for the test as well as a personal interview is also very important to receive the scholarship.

The number of scholarships available is limited in each round and hence, the candidates are encouraged to apply to their timeliest. The scholarships are given on a rolling basis.


Grant Details

The LSEF-UMass Scholarship value is up to 20,00,000 INR and will be granted, by the foundation, based on passing the interview and aptitude test. The number of candidates varies every year.

The scholarship can be used for the payment of tuition fees and may reduce up to 50% of the total fee amount including 2 years of the course. The LSEF-UMass Scholarship is awarded semester-wise and fair performance in each semester is expected.

The application timeline for LSEF-UMass Scholarship 2020:

The Aptitude test for scholarship cum admission has been scheduled on April 18 and April 19, 2020.

Since the scholarship is a grant and not a loan, the candidates will not need to repay the amount later which makes the scholarship a great source of funds for the candidates looking forward to studying at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
