India First Year Excellence Scholarship

India First Year Excellence Scholarship is offered to all the Indian Students who take an undergraduate course at the University of Alberta. It is available to students beginning UG programs at the university.

India First Year Excellence Scholarship is applicable for all UAlberta undergraduate programs.
Selections are based on the applicant’s previous academic records.
The scholarship is fully sponsored by the University of Alberta.

India First Year Excellence Scholarship recipients are awarded 5,000 CAD, one-time payment, for their 4-year undergraduate study course. The scholarship covers tuition and fees, but not the cost of living in Canada.

Eligibility Criteria

This scholarship is specially designed for Indian Students who study in Canada on a student visa and is given only to those students who have superior academic achievement and excellent high school grades.

Must be an Indian national
Must have completed high school education from an Indian institution.
Must have an unconditional admission letter for a UG program at the University of Alberta.
Must be commencing the chosen program in the same session and year as the scholarship.

Must have less than 24 IB, AP, or A-Level credits, before joining the university.

Eligibility for UG Admissions at the University of Alberta

To secure admission in UG program at the University of Alberta, an Indian student must fulfill the following requirements:

Completion of five academic subjects in class X and XII.
High school academic transcripts
English proficiency score

Note: The number of scholarship offered each year are only limited and transfer students are not eligible under this category of scholarship.

Application Process

The University of Alberta does NOT have any separate application form for India First Year Excellence Scholarship.

Indian students admitted to a UG program at the University of Alberta will be automatically considered for the scholarship program.

Prospective students seeking financial aid through this scholarship program or any UAlberta Scholarship are advised to submit their admission applications as early as possible.

Selection Process

The University of Alberta’s scholarship selection committee will receive applications of the eligible students from the admission office.

Selections for India First Year Excellence Scholarships are majorly based on an applicant’s high school standing. From academic grades to extracurricular achievements, each element is reviewed.

Recipients of the First Year Excellence Scholarship are notified about the committee’s decision via email. Funds are directly dispersed to the recipient’s student account and are automatically deducted at the time of tuition fee payment.

The scholarship does not cover the financial needs related to living expenses or accommodation.
- It only covers the tuition and fees of the student.
It is a one-time scholarship and is not renewable.
