How good is PGDM with Oprations at IMT Ghaziabad or TAPMI?

SA
Shubham Arora Posted On : January 27th, 2023
Studied Human Resource Management at Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (Graduated 2018)

My friends passed out from IMT Ghaziabad and said that your specialization does not really matter. What matters is the institute. She was in a dilemma about choosing IMT and TAPMI and later went for IMT Ghaziabad and is very proud of her decision. She thinks it has many advantages over TAPMI like

  • IMT Ghaziabad has a better reputation and brand name than TAPMI
  • Most recruiters consider IMT a top B School of the country and give it preference to TAPMI
  • IMT does not instill unnecessary rigor and has a calm relaxed environment. It’s up to you to grab the necessary opportunities and climb the ladder
  • The campus life is usually student driven so it helps in overall personality development
  • The Operations faculty at IMT Ghaziabad is a notch above TAPMI

All these points clearly show that IMT Ghaziabad is better than TAPMI.

PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Kashipur (2018)

IIM Kashipur is one of the best IIM’s due to several reasons. Some of them are mentioned below:

  1. The location of the institute is very dense and has over 180 industrial plants located in and around Kashipur. Students get plants to visit and also get a chance to work on various operations live projects.
  2. The faculties are just the best you can get for operational management. Nearly 30 of the faculty belong to the domain of “Operational Management”. IIM Kashipur has the most faculties from the Operation Domain.

Which course among PGP at IIM Indore and PGP-ABM at IIM Lucknow should one choose if he/she has an interest in Marketing and Operations?

AD
Amit Datta Posted On : January 9th, 2023
PGP from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2021)

The simple answer is that the choice of the course depends more or your overall profile than the course itself. Irresponsible of your specialization your chances at placements will be low if your resume is below average. Moreover, institutes like IIM Indore and IIM Lucknow offer joint placements for both programs.

Students can apply to any company irrespective of their specialization. Yet there are many who are able to get into their dream companies while some failed to get a call from a reputed firm. This is because the PGP program just added value to your resume and if that is already poor then even PGP cannot guarantee you a high-paying job.

So if you already have a good resume all you need to do is improve your resume in marketing and operations. This can be done through extra-curricular activities and B-school competitions. For this the PGP-ABM program is perfect.

But if you have a below-average resume, then go for PGP. Because then extracurricular activities alone will not improve your resume. You need class projects and good academic scores to upgrade it. Unlike PGP-ABM, you won’t miss out on basic electives related to marketing/ops/finance.

So nothing is certain about an MBA program. One needs to know what he will be doing after acquiring knowledge to decide which course to take. I will personally suggest you go for IIM Lucknow PGP-ABM if you just want to improve your resume.

Which college should you choose for Operations management: IMT Ghaziabad, IMI New Delhi, or SIOM Nashik?

SS
Sandeep Sahu Posted On : March 14th, 2023
MBA in Marketing & Information Technology, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (Graduated 2020)

If you had to choose from the options mentioned, it's recommended to opt for a brand name. Your priority should be IMT Ghaziabad, IMI Delhi, and SIOM Nashik.

When it comes to Operations Management, NITIE, and IITs are considered to be top-notch. They offer a comprehensive curriculum, job roles, and industry exposure, making them highly sought-after. In fact, IITs have established their brand in management, specifically due to their expertise in operations. However, when it comes to Operation major, NITIE remains unparalleled, as they have the longest chain of alumni in operations, holding high-level designations for many years.

If operations are still your preferred field, and you don't have any other options apart from NITIE or IITs, then your decision should be entirely based on the brand you are joining.

How is IITD MBA compared to IIM Trichy/ Ranchi? And how are the placements at IIT Delhi in Operations?

PT
Prasenjit Thakur Posted On : January 12th, 2023
FPM Accounting and Finance & Corporate Governance, Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (2019)

My friend recently joined DMS, IIT Delhi to pursue MBA despite getting calls from almost all the new IIMs. She based her decision on the following factors

ROI: I think this is an underestimated factor people don’t stress enough. When you are comparing colleges on the same wavelength, it’s the ROI that can make the difference prominent. Apparently DMS, IIT Delhi enjoys an ROI of 180%.

Placements: DMS has great placement opportunities. The stats below prove it

Particulars

Statistics

Placement Percentage

100%

Highest CTC

INR. 36.70 LPA

Average CTC

INR 21.90 LPA

Median CTC

INR 20.60 LPA

Top Industry

Sales & Marketing, Strategy & Consulting

Top Companies

Rockwell Automation, Texas Instruments, ICICI, Optum, Medtronic, GE Healthcare

The placements for the Operations and Supply Chain accounted for 17.3%. The highest number of students had work experience in the Information Technology industry followed by the Supply Chain & Operations industry.

Ranking: DMS, IIT Delhi is ranked 5 in the NIRF ranking and also ranks higher than all new IIMs in

most of the CAT coaching institute rankings. It has a rich research culture giving it the 3 positions in the QS world rankings.

Batch size: DMS has an average batch size thereby increasing the scope of interaction. It also enjoys location advantages, not making it difficult for big industries to visit the campus for recruitment.

I am interested in marketing and operations. Which college should I choose for this - IMI Delhi or IIT Roorkee?

KG
Kushagra Gupta Posted On : March 3rd, 2023
PGDM in Banking and Financial Services, International Management Institute (Graduated 2020)

If you are a marketing enthusiast, IMI Delhi is a much preferable option for you. IIT Roorkee is known for its specialization in Operations and Systems only. To avail of an enriching B School experience one must try not to go for a technical institute unless it is IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi. While the Department of Managements of IITs do excel in Operations they lack in domains such as finance, marketing, HR, and strategic management. Only the exclusive B Schools excel in these specializations.

The main requisites of a rich B School life are

  • Clubs and committees
  • Excessive corporate exposure
  • Relevant curriculum

Corporate exposure is sought through corporate competitions, guest lectures , conclaves, and live projects owing to alumni connections and the location advantage of being in Delhi or Mumbai. At a B School the clubs and committees are initiated and operated by Management students themselves whereas, at IITs, it’s the younger BTech graduates that do so.

So it’s the core B School life you will be missing out if you chose DOM at any Technical institute. No doubt the fees are much lower than an exclusive B School but you will be missing other things big time.

AS
Abhishek Singhal Posted On : January 6th, 2023
99.2%tile in CAT 15 and 99.68 in CAT 16

If you are interested in Operations, then IIM Kashipur is a really good option. It offers various opportunities to operations enthusiasts. Operations Management positions are directly linked with delivery. Its goal is to achieve the best potential level of efficiency. IIM Kashipur makes this possible through the following features

  • Location: The most distinctive feature of IIM Kashipur is its excellent location surrounded by hundreds of factories. This enables the students to bridge the gap between theory and practice as the students can participate in plant visits and work on real-world operations projects.
  • Exposure: Lying in the industrial belt it welcomes many industry experts in guest lectures who are eager to impart skills and knowledge about the industry firsthand. Experts from many reputed firms such as Genpact, Apollo Hospitals, Schindler India, GE Gas Power, Schneider Electric, etc. visit the campus.
  • Faculty: The Operations Management domain is taught by 20% of the regular faculty. This means this domain has the maximum number of permanent faculty. This directly affects the quality of education.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification: Six Sigma is a highly significant methodology in the field of Operations Management. The practitioners of this methodology are then certified based on their competency with the method.

All these points prove that IIM Kashipur is an excellent choice for an Operations enthusiast.

When IIM Kashipur is the most apt for Operations among the new IIMs, then why does the maximum placement there happens in Finance and Marketing?

MM
Mahak Mahajan Posted On : January 13th, 2023
PGPM from Indian Institute of Management Kashipur (Graduated 2018)

Because of its location, IIM Kashipur has the best Operations faculties and links. However, there are a few issues with the placement of the same. The Institute does not award diplomas in specific fields such as operations, finance, and marketing. As a result, students of any major are always eligible to apply for any job. Because students are not enrolled in a specific stream when they join the institute, their preferences change after the first year of exposure. Many students enter the second year with the intention of majoring in Operations, but they end up majoring in other fields for personal reasons.

Even among them, there aren't many freshmen, for whom it can be challenging to find an operations job; as a result, even they end up getting placed in a different stream. Therefore, IIM Kashipur is indeed a perfect place for operations management, but only if you have the correct perspective on what ops are and if you stick with it.
