Which course is better HRM or BM from XIMB?

AP
Ansuman Panda Posted On : March 13th, 2023
MBA in Marketing & Finance, International Management Institute (Graduated 2008)

To begin with, let me tell you that XIMB offers MBA-BM whereas XAHR offers MBA-HRM. XAHR or Xaviers School of Human Resource Management was started after the immense success of the HRM program of XIMB.

Now coming to your question, the program you choose will be an important factor in shaping your career so it should be based on your inclinations. Get a clear idea of the various arenas and specializations of Management and the required skills. Both the courses deal with very important elements of Management but HRM specifically deals with the primary asset of any company, The employees.

BM offers an MBA in various fields like

  • Finance
  • Sales and Marketing
  • Operations
  • Consulting
  • General Management

Each of these specializations have its own pros and cons. For instance, if you are into number crunching, operation management, and market mapping, then BM is a good choice for you. You can get further details of the course on the official website. Analyze what course and why attracts you the most and make an informed decision. So only you can decide which course to take as this is a subjective question based solely on your personal preference.

Should I join BM in XIMB?

IP
Isha Parasramka Posted On : March 13th, 2023
PGDM from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar

XIMB is one the top B schools in India and MBA in Business Management is its flagship course. Whether you should join it or not is your call depending on your inclinations and preferences. However, my answer entails various reasons why one must consider XIMB.

  • XIMB has a 31-year-long legacy which has resulted in its rich lineage, great faculty members, and an elaborate alumni base.
  • The institute is known for its research culture and development activities on a regular basis in collaboration with the government.
  • XIMB is granted the South Asian Quality Assurance Systems (SAQS) accreditation by the Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA) and the NBA Accreditation by the National Board of Accreditation for a period of 5 years for PGDM.
  • Unlike most B Schools it offers an MBA degree rather than a PGDM Diploma. An MBA gives a holistic view of the program while a PGDM focuses on a specific specialization.
  • XIMB also offers international exchange of students not only through the college but also through student-driven committees.
  • The faculty at XIMB are experts in their respective fields and have immense industry experience which is reflected in their pedagogy.
  • In the second year, you get an opportunity to do a double major, major plus minor in whichever fields (i.e. Marketing, Finance, operations, etc) we would like to gain knowledge and experience in. This gives us an opportunity to gain cross-functional knowledge and explore beyond our comfort zone, a quality required in the corporate world.
  • XIMB encourages extra-curricular/ co-curricular activities combining activities and academics which helps you to learn how to become a better manager and put your theoretical knowledge to the test.
  • Business seminars and talks hosted by industry leaders from every field are common in XIMB. These business talks help the students increase their practical knowledge with quality industry exposure.
  • XIMB holds a strong alumni base with alumni at top positions in various companies.
  • XIMB gives due importance to academics and learning through various projects, competitions, case studies, live projects, and faculty projects.
  • The students are constantly evaluated through quizzes and assignments to keep them on their toes. This helps them adjust to the hectic schedule they face in the corporate world.

Overall, the campus life at XIMB is unique and complete as it is a B-School that is forever awake.

I'm getting a seat at NIT Jalandhar in production engineering. What is the scope of the branch in India? Which master's should I choose: an MBA or an MTech?

HC

Btech from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ ) (Graduated 2019)

Scope of Industrial and Production Engineering is good at NIT Jalandhar. But you will be offered less salary in comparison to Mechanical Engineering.

But if you go for a non-core job, the salaries offered might be above average.

Between M.Tech and MBA, I will recommend you go for MBA. This is because M.Tech placements are very low and very little scope is there.

Choosing MBA will get you the following benefits:

  • Better salary than M.Tech.

  • The curriculum for IPE is easier so you can also prepare for CAT alongside

  • The faculty is extremely supportive

  • The syllabus of IPE and MBA is somewhat similar so it becomes easy for you

People choose M.Tech thinking its a bit similar to IPE. But in reality IPE has a practical and managerial subjects whereas M.Tech has more technical subjects. So don’t get confused and just go for IPE.

What is the expected cutoff for SPJain (both profile based calls and normal calls) and XIMB (BM and HR) through CAT and XAT?

IJ
Ishant Jain Posted On : March 13th, 2023
PGDM from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (1989)

SPJIMR

According to the information available, the expected cutoff for SP Jain Institute of Management for both profile-based and normal calls through CAT and XAT is not released yet. So

I will base the answer on last year's cutoff

  • XAT: 93.5 percentile
  • CAT: 85 percentile

However it’s important to note that for more certainty of admission, one must score around 93-95%ile score and a 680-690 min on GMAT.

XIMB

The XLRI admission cut-off is directly influenced by the difficulty level of the XAT question paper. XAT 2023 exam was held on January 8, 2023. The question paper was of moderate difficulty level, the same as last year. Given below are the section-wise XAT cut-off for XLRI admission 2023:

General Engineers (BM)

95 Male 92 Female

General Non Engineer (BM)

95 Male 92 Female

General Engineers (HRM)

93 Male 91 Female

General Non Engineers (HRM)

90 Male 88 Female

XIMB CAT cutoff for the previous year was 91 percentile for Business Management and HRM cutoff hasn’t been released yet.
