What should I choose between Sydenham PGDBM and K J Somaiya MMS?

SP
Samiksha Panday Posted On : September 8th, 2021
PGADM in Operations Management, Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (2019)

Having known some students of both these colleges, I can say that both the colleges are really good in terms of infrastructure, culture, and faculties. There are of course some differences too and for that let me share with you a few details.

  • K J Somaiya has better infrastructure and the campus is located at the heart of the city. SIMSREE doesn't have such a big infrastructure.
  • SIMSREE has a better ROI than K J Somaiya.
  • Placement usually depends on your profile and how you perform in your management education & certainly performance in interviews.
  • Professors, peers both are good in both colleges.
  • At SIMSREE, the finance course is much better as there are several guest lecturers visiting from JBIMS.
  • Both SIMSREE and K J Somaiya’s program in MMS is Mumbai University affiliated. Its degree is acceptable for several government jobs as well.
Categories MMS at SIMSREE MMS at K J Somaiya
Course Fee 1.36 lakh 3.24 lakh
Highest CTC 20 LPA -
Average CTC 12 LPA 8-9 LPA
Recruiting Companies American Express, Barclays, ITC, KPMG, etc. Amazon, HUL, Deutsche Bank, Wipro, etc.

It must be noted that PGDBM is not offered at SIMSREE rather the institute also offers MMS in affiliation with Mumbai University.

Also, while choosing between MMS at Sydenham and K J Somaiya, it is suggested that you talk to alumni of both colleges, which would definitely give you a clear idea.

Which is a better management course, PGDIE from NITIE Mumbai or Masters of Management from IISC Bangalore?

AS
Anupama Srivastava Posted On : August 18th, 2021
Studied Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

Having to know some people from both these institutes, I can say that both have the sand management course but still, there's a lot of difference between the mindset of the two.

  • The curriculum remains the same but the change comes in the teaching method.
  • IISc, as usual, has a research-oriented way of teaching.
  • Whereas NITIE focuses more on the logical and decision-making skills from the managerial point of view.
  • Both are different in the placement domain as there's a marginal difference between the average packages.
  • Also, IISc is a tier 2 college unlike NITIE.
Categories PGDIE at NITIE Mumbai MMS at IISc Bangalore
Course Fee 14.63 lakh 3.18 lakh
Highest CTC 28 LPA 26 LPA
Average CTC 15 LPA 12-18 LPA
Recruiting Companies Wipro, ZS Associates, IBM, HP, etc. Infosys, Cognizant, Dell, TCS, etc.

So ultimately it is your decision to choose between these two colleges. Assess every criteria before finalizing one. As this will shape your career further.

What are the college timings for an MMS course at JBIMS and Sydenham?

BR
Biswadip Roy Posted On : February 20th, 2023
Studied Finance at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies

Any typical day at JBIMS depends on your workload and the ongoing semester. The duration of lectures is 3 hours with a small break. The lectures take place in the following shifts

  • 7 am-10 am
  • 2 pm-5 pm
  • 6:30 pm-9 pm

There might be one, two, or three lectures depending on your course. Another set of events that constitute a major part of your day is committee-related events like competitions. Apart from that you are always busy preparing for your presentations and assignments. Attending guest lectures is mandatory and no one can evade them.

The first semester is the busiest as it’s packed with induction, committee election, summer placements, and lectures. You won’t be able to sleep more than 4-5 hours a day and then soon adapt to the strenuous college life.

How is the daily life of a first year MMS student at JBIMS?

SS
Seenu Singh Posted On : February 20th, 2023
M.M.S. from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (Graduated 2019)

A first-year MMS student at JBIMS is jolted out of his comfort zone and thrown into a plethora of assignments, projects, knowledge sessions, virtually extempore presentations, quizzes, etc. You will experience a roller coaster of emotions and events and it can take a toll on you at least in the initial months.

The tight deadlines and sleep sacrifice will pave your way through the 2 years. You need to have tons of self-belief and perseverance that you are definitely going to make it through. This will in fact make your experience a thrilling one.

Looking around the campus you will find a highly energetic group of students always discussing an impending crisis. Students will always be seen carrying newspapers or magazines inside the campus.

As time goes by you adapt yourself to the tight deadlines and rigorous environment such that submitting assignments becomes a normal task and is thought to be accomplished in 2 days and preparing for presentations takes just a single night.

You can escape the stress and rigid campus life by taking part only in the compulsory events but that won’t help you to make the most out of your college life. Additional events like -

  • Guest lectures maximizing corporate exposure
  • Experienced in-house and visiting faculty
  • Illustrious alumni base ever-ready to be the guiding lamp to the students
  • Student-driven committees undertaking various activities lending some worthwhile hands-on experience in management
  • Annual festival Prayaag
  • Research presentation event Strategym
  • Opportunities to participate in intercollegiate fests

All these opportunities in addition to the mandatory academics will help you maximize your experience at JBIM

With a gap of 3 years (no work experience, few certifications) and low academics (53% in XII and 6.1 CGPA in a BE), what problems can one face during summer placements at JBIMS (MMS Finance)?

ST
Sai Teja Posted On : February 20th, 2023
Studied Finance at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies

The first 2 semesters comprise of General electives that are compulsory for everyone. You can at least stop stressing about your specialization for a year. You need to be extremely flexible in order to pursue an MBA. I have seen many people who initially were into Finance yet after summer placements chose Marketing.

As far as the problems related to your low scores are concerned, well yes, it will always be a hindering factor. But this does not mean your MBA is of no use. You will get offers from startups which are an altogether new experience as you get to learn from scratch. But this problem does not happen during Final placements because placements depend upon how you have lived your college life so far and gained from it. At this stage, your past academics will rarely matter.

You will definitely get a good job if you scored well throughout college despite having completed your internship from a startup or not-so-popular brand. Work hard, build your profile, and make this MBA a turning point in your life. Inculcating GD and PI skills is very important to ensure a good stable job.

So you can overcome the little struggle during summer placements and wait for the long-run benefits.

What are your views about a part-time MBA at JBIMS, Mumbai? Is it really worthwhile?

NG
Niharika Gandhi Posted On : February 9th, 2023

If you're looking to do a part-time MBA program in Mumbai, JBIMS MBA part-time is a great choice. The classes are held both during the week (6:30 pm to 9:30 pm) and on weekends. All the schools in University of Mumbai offering this course have the same curriculum, but JBIMS stands out because of its well-known reputation.

This course is good for:

  • Working people with graduation degree and want to become managers
  • People who can't afford to spend 2 years doing a full-time MBA
  • If you do not want to spend a lot of money on executive MBA programs
  • People living in Mumbai for the next 3 years (JBIMS part-time MBA is for 3 years)
  • If you can attend classes and have time on the weekends to do coursework
  • If you are looking to make connections in the industry

This course may not be good for:

  • People who can afford to spend 2 years doing a full-time MBA, because full-time is better than part-time
  • If you want to have a guaranteed job after the program, because part-time MBA programs assume that the students are already employed and will find better job opportunities in the future
  • People who might have to move away from Mumbai for a long time or who can't regularly attend classes.

I hope this information helps you with your decision. Good luck!

What is the scope of an MS in management studies from DOMS IIT Madras?

AS
Aditi Sengupta Posted On : March 31st, 2023
Studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

IIT Madras is a premiere Engineering college and all the courses are of premium quality and taught by world-class faculty. Talking specifically about DoMS, it has some of the oldest and most highly experienced faculty who are very cooperative and guide the students throughout their journey.

IIT Madras faculty are experts in their area of specialization mainly because my cousin was an M S - Mech student, and had to audit classes, with the Consent Of Teachers in the Management Studies department. She was fortunate enough to avail the opportunity to teach in DoMS. She was impressed by the faculty of the department and shared her wonderful experience.

Not only in academics but the department is also known for its valuable research work done by MS students. Many students even opt for Ph.D. after completing their MS. IIT Madras’ Central Library is no joke given the huge variety of books and unique research materials. It runs 24/7 and one can even photocopy necessary material for research purposes.

Without further hesitation, go for MS at DoMS IIT Madras and you will realize how wonderful a decision it was.

Which one is best: a PGDM from Birla Institute of Management Technology, Greater Noida, an MMS in finance from NL Dalmia, or an MBA from PUMBA, Pune?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : April 18th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

NL Dalmia has a specific focus on finance, which makes it a good option for candidates looking to specialize in finance. On the other hand, PUMBA offers a more general management education with a focus on practical learning and industry exposure.

BIMTECH, Greater Noida offers a good curriculum with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. The institute has a strong industry connection and offers a variety of electives to choose from. However, its ranking is lower than NL Dalmia and PUMBA.
