How is life at pondicherry engineering college?

NG
Nandini Gupta Posted On : July 6th, 2021
Studied at Pondicherry Engineering College

Life at Pondicherry Engineering College is quite enjoyable, mixed with a lot of emotions and activities throughout the four years.

The points below give a brief overview of life at the institute, based on the reviews of students who were once a part of the same.

  • The professors are extremely qualified and teach well. But, some of the newly recruited teachers in the institute are not that good at their job.
  • A maximum of 60% of the entire syllabus is covered by the teachers throughout the semester classes. In case of lab works, teachers are quite strict in evaluation.
  • The pattern of the exam is totally similar to the Anna University, which is a little primitive in nature. It is not very much helpful for students learning and has much less impact on logical thinking skills. Passing the theoretical exams is not at all difficult, and can be cleared through simple mugging. Practical exams are much more serious and need proper concepts.
  • The campus of PEC is very beautiful. For nature lovers, it is a perfect place to stay and walk around with a bunch of friends. For commuting inside the campus, having a cycle is necessary.
  • Students need to reach the city through crowded buses. But, the overall atmosphere of Pondicherry is enough to soothe the students.
  • The time restriction for the girl’s hostel is 8:30 PM, which is somewhat inconvenient.
  • Most of the students in the hostel are from south India, especially from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. There are few north-Indian students, who seem to be disinterested in attending classes mostly.
  • In PEC, there are all kinds of students mixed together, students who are nothing other than bullies, extremely outgoing students, and even very few outgoing students.

Life at Pondicherry Engineering College is a mixture of thousands of aspects, including fun, serious practical sessions, activities, and lovely campus.

Is it really good to join Pondicherry Engineering College (CSE branch)?

KC
Khushi Chitra Posted On : June 29th, 2021
B.Tech from Pondicherry Engineering College (2019)

The exposure is minimal when compared to others. It all boils down to self-study. There are some opportunities, such as PDC courses, where you can explore a lot.

  • Most students choose easy subjects in order to get good grades rather than to learn something new.
  • Some faculties put in a lot of effort, while the majority of them try to pass the time.
  • PEC provides you with one advantage i.e freedom.
  • You'll have the best time in college if you can find some resources and study on your own.
  • Please do not be carried by students who have graduated a long time ago. Nowadays, things are very different.

Some important information about CSE branch you need to be aware of before applying:

Total course fee

6.11 lakhs

Total seats available

66 seats

Placement rate

95%

Average salary package

6 LPA

Top recruiters

Acheron, Aricent, Aspire, Athena Health, Bosch, Cognizant, CSC, etc.

A new syllabus will be provided in accordance with the new regulations. Labs are well-managed. This branch's placement record is good and improving. After entering the branch in your second or third year, you have the option of selecting electives. Make certain that you select the best ones in which you have an interest.

How good is Pondicherry Engineering College for doing M.Tech in Computer science? How good are its placement stats for M.Tech?

AD
Abhishek Dasgupta Posted On : June 22nd, 2021
B.Tech, Mechanical Engineer from Pondicherry Engineering College

If you are considering Engineering colleges from Pondicherry alone then choosing PEC is the best choice. You will receive similar placement opportunities as that of the BTech students at the institute.

Companies like TCS, HCL, Aricent, Sapient, SAP, Subex, and few start-ups visit the campus for placement drives.

There is no difference in packages that are offered to BTech graduates and MTech graduates unless you negotiate on your behalf.

Another crucial thing for MTech at PEC is choosing the right project guide. Your project quality will depend a lot on the guide. It is of utmost importance for postgraduates. So, choose a difficult project and don’t entirely depend on your guide for the work. Do courses on online platforms like Coursera to learn about necessary things.

So, choose PEC, only if you are willing to go the extra mile by yourself.

SR
Shreya Rao Posted On : July 28th, 2021
Studied at Calcutta University (2019)

Some of my friends who studied at Pondicherry Engineering College. They gave the college a fair rating of 3.5 out of 5. Leaving the part of active clubs and committees, every other aspect of the college is pretty nice.

  • In your third year, you will be given a chance to work on industrial projects.
  • PEC Pondicherry provides an all-round experience.
  • If you want to become an expert in your subject then this college is the best choice. But if you want placements, then you will face a little bit of difficulty but that is also eradicated in the software sector.
  • Most of the faculty members are well experienced and highly cooperative. EEE department has a very knowledgeable and helpful faculty.
Categories Electrical at Pondicherry Engineering College
Course Fee 2.20 lakh
Highest CTC 6-8 LPA
Average CTC 3.4 LPA
Recruiting Companies GE Healthcare, IBM, Cognizant, HCL, etc.

The seniors who have passed out from the EEE department have been working with tech giants like Qualcomm, GE, Panasonic, etc. Pondicherry Engineering College is a good college if you want to acquire knowledge but it holds an average reputation when it comes to placements.

Which is better, ECE in Pondicherry Engineering College or Biotech in Sastra?

SN
Shubham Nath Posted On : August 2nd, 2021
Studied at SASTRA University, Thanjavur

It depends on where you want to live and study. If you are comfortable staying in Pondicherry and are interested in ECE, go with PEC, which is one of India's oldest institutes.

On the other hand, SASTRA University is a more recent private prestigious university and it has great infrastructure facilities and placement record. BioTech in Sastra has IT placements with a lot of companies whereas ECE in PEC has good placement but is not that great.

The table shows a brief overview of the institution:

Particulars PEC SASTRA
Highest CTC 10 LPA 28.3 LPA
Average CTC 4 LPA 9.3 LPA
Fees 3.77 LPA 6.20 LPA

You can opt for PEC as its fee is lower than SASTRA. However, go for it only if you are getting a seat in ECE. If not, SASTRA can be considered as a final option.
