Studied at NIT Calicut

The following are some possible reasons why the placements for B.Tech Civil Engineering may be relatively low compared to other branches at NIT Calicut.

  1. Limited job opportunities: Civil engineering is a field that relies heavily on the government and public sector for job opportunities. Therefore, if there are fewer job openings in the public sector, it may result in lower placements for civil engineering students.
  2. Specialization: Civil engineering is a vast field with many specializations. It's possible that the students specializing in certain areas within civil engineering, such as construction management or structural engineering, have better job prospects than those in other areas.
  3. Regional demand: The demand for civil engineers can vary depending on the region. It's possible that the job market for civil engineering in the region where NIT Calicut is located is not as strong as in other regions.
  4. Economic conditions: The economic conditions of the country can also affect the job market for civil engineers. During an economic downturn, there may be a decrease in construction activity and infrastructure projects, which can lead to lower job opportunities for civil engineering graduates.

It's important to note that these are just possible reasons and may not necessarily be the only factors affecting the placement statistics of B.Tech Civil Engineering at NIT Calicut.

B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2018)

Civil Engineering is something that you should never opt for. Go for it only if you are passionate enough. Branches like Textile Engineering and Food Processing possess a better future than Civil Engineering in today’s time. Only if you do M.Tech from some top IIT, you will find a few in-office jobs.

  • Go for Civil Engineering only if it is something that excites you and you are passionate about it.
  • You will have to do a lot of fieldwork and spend most of your time under the burning sun forgetting about your work-life balance. I can give you an example of L&T Constructions since one of my friends was placed there and his experience was the worst.
  • Do not even think that you will land up with your dream package easily after Civil Engineering. It is tough even after years of experience.

You have two options.

  1. Work hard for 15-20 years with a low salary and then find a good salaried job.
  2. Choose some other branch, get a high-packaged job in the initial years and keep growing higher.

The choice is yours. If you are thinking of any government job, you know how difficult it is to get one nowadays. Looking at all these factors, software company placements are the best.
