Many GATE toppers leave PSU and join NITIE, instead of IITs, because it offers better placements. Usually, students with good scores join  ONGC, NTPC, BHEL, IOCL, and others. Despite the good salary, the PSU jobs can get monotonous after a few years. So, the top rankers start looking for better career options. If they wish to do an MBA, they need to prepare for CAT. Some do prepare for CAT, but many join NITIE as it is an easier option. NITIE takes admission through GATE and the GATE score is valid for 3 years. So, they can easily get admission based on their GATE score.

Also, the institute has a great placement record. During NITIE Mumbai placement 2022, the average CTC offered was INR 25.41 LPA.

Most top rankers (preferably 90-95%) opt for PSU jobs in ONGC, NTPC, SAIL, BHEL, IOCL, HPCL, CIL, etc, and the rest choose to do M.Tech in IITs and IISc. However, it is observed that many candidates join NITIE to pursue their PG diploma.

PSU jobs offer good salary packages however, the job can be monotonous and the yearly increment is low. For these reasons, some top rankers start looking for better career opportunities after a certain period of time.

After 1-2 years in a PSU, candidates have an option to join IITs, IISc, or NITIE on the basis of their previous year's GATE score, which remains valid for 3 years. Some even start preparing for CAT or UPSC, which is time-consuming and the success rate is less.

Reason for choosing NITIE over IITs:

  • It is obvious that people leaving a PSU are definitely seeking a better opportunity and a higher CTC. Most people do not choose IITs to pursue their MBA as the placements are not as good for branches other than IT or CS at IITs.

  • Whereas, candidates can join NITIE with their previous year's GATE score, which saves the hustle of preparing for CAT.

  • Also, NITIE has a very good placement record, with an average CTC around 20 LPA and the highest package going up to 60 LPA. Some of the big MNCs visiting NITIE include Google, Microsoft, Uber, Shell, ITC, Walmart, HUL, Nestle, Deloitte, BMW, E&Y, etc.

NITIE offers better placement opportunities for MBA as compared to IITs and saves time and effort for CAT preparation.
