If you are interested in pursuing MS in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras, there is a GATE cut-off, but it is not as high as that for M.Tech admission. This is because the institute follows a three-step process for admission that includes a written test and an interview, which are equally important in determining eligibility.

To be eligible for admission, you need to meet the following requirements:

  • Have a good GATE score, which will be considered along with your undergraduate engineering marks and interview score.
  • A score above 8 in your undergraduate program is considered good and can increase your chances of getting admitted.
  • You will need to perform well in the interview to improve your chances of getting selected.

The admission process for MS in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras follows these steps:

  • GATE cut-off - While there is a GATE cut-off, it is not the only factor considered for admission.
  • Written test - The institute conducts a written test that covers topics from the GATE syllabus.
  • Interview - Students who qualify for the written test will be invited for an interview with a panel of professors.

IIT Madras gives equal weightage to interview performance, engineering marks, and GATE scores for the final selection process. However, the speaker suggests that more weight should be given to interview performance and engineering marks in the admission process.

In conclusion, if you have a good GATE score, a high undergraduate percentage, and perform well in the interview, you have a good chance of being selected for the MS program in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras.

B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2019)

GATE cut-off for MS by research program in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras can vary from year to year and depends on several factors such as the number of applicants, the difficulty level of the exam, and the availability of seats. However, based on the previous year's cut-off scores, the GATE score required for admission to the MS by research program in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras is generally in the range of 500-550.

It is important to note that the GATE score is not the only factor that is considered for admission to the MS research program at IIT Madras. Other factors such as academic performance, research experience, and letters of recommendation are also taken into consideration. Additionally, meeting the minimum GATE score requirement does not guarantee admission to the program as the final selection is based on a combination of factors including the candidate's performance in the written test and/or interview.

Therefore, it is important to aim for a GATE score higher than the expected cut-off score and to also focus on other aspects of the application process such as preparing a strong research proposal and securing strong letters of recommendation to maximize your chances of getting admission to the MS by research program in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras.

There is no cut-off score of GATE which is needed for MS by research at IIT Madras mechanical branch. IIT Madras follows a three-step process for admitting students.

  • GATE Initial Screening - You will need at least 65% in your undergraduate and a decent GATE score of around 600+ to get a call for the written exam. This GATE score changes each year based on the number of applicants, the difficulty level of the exam, and various other factors.
  • Written Examination - A written offline or online test will be conducted by the institute next. The syllabus is the same as that of GATE.
  • Interview - If you qualify the cut-off score set internally for the written exam, you will sit for an interview with a panel of professors.

Now finally after the whole process is completed, they will release results and offer admissions. The weightage followed by the institute for the final merit list is as follows.

  • Undergraduate percentage - 20%
  • GATE Score - 40%
  • Interview - 40%

So, there is no fixed cut-off GATE score for MS at IITM.
