MBA Finance, Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, New Delhi (2018)

One of my friends applied for PGDM Finance at LBSIM last year and was shortlisted for the interview round. Here are the questions that he had to answer during his interview.

There was a year gap after his graduation, so they asked what he did in that time period. He explained that he was self-employed. After the brief introduction, the following questions were asked.

  • How will you explain balance sheet to students?
  • Tell us something about Gearing ratio.
  • Share your views about direct and indirect expenses.
  • Tell us about Lawrence Curve.
  • Tell us about Debt equity ratio.

To his surprise, he wasn’t asked the general questions like Why MBA? Strength and weakness, etc. Overall his experience was good and he was able to convert the call.

According to the interview experience of my brother, you need to go through a diverse range of questions in the interview of LBSIM. The points below state some of the most frequently asked questions.

  • The interviewer asks the candidate to introduce themselves first.
  • One of the most important questions that follow after the introduction is the reason behind the candidate’s choice of doing an MBA.
  • In the case of finance candidates, it is very obvious that they will be asked the reason to choose a career in finance.
  • Candidates’ strengths and weaknesses is a very common question asked in almost all interviews.
  • You will be asked about your vision for the next few years of life. To be more precise, you will also be asked to clarify where you see yourself in the future.
  • Sometimes, there are interrogations about hobbies and things of interest. Candidates are asked how they spend their time on things.
  • If you are choosing finance, you will be asked about financial statements and asked to state the most important one among all.
  • There are several financial ratios like turnover ratio, profitability, etc which are frequent questions in interviews.
  • Another important question is about non-performing accounts (NPAs).
  • In all interviews for finance candidates, there are questions from basic accounting terms.
  • Obviously, current affairs questions are a must. Students should go through the daily business newspapers to stay updated.

These are some of the most important and frequently asked questions in the PGDM finance interview at LBSIM.
