Which IIM should I choose amongst Bodh Gaya, Sirmaur, and Jammu?

AD

MBA in Marketing & Technology, DoMS IIT Roorkee (Graduated 2006)

All the 3 B Schools you mentioned have been established recently and are not very different from each other. My sister is an IIM Jammu pass out so I will mention whatever I know of that particular IIM only.

  • It was established in 2016 and initially functioned under IIM Lucknow but now runs as an autonomous school.
  • Located in the heart of Jammu city, IIM Jammu gives an edge over other new IIMs because of better connectivity.
  • The campus life is a blend of a hectic schedule with tight deadlines that will always keep you on your toes
  • Emphasis is also placed on extracurricular activities through sports, cultural and regional events. The Annual Sports Event “Funathon” is conducted to showcase the talents of students in sports.
  • Great exposure is provided to students
  • through various Guest Lectures and various events like HR Conclave and CEO Summit
  • Being a new IIM, the student-driven culture is at its peak here. You are responsible for solving issues related to the establishment of clubs and committees.

So I think IIM Jammu is probably a good choice.

Which IIM is better, IIM Sambalpur or IIM Bodh Gaya?

MJ
Manan Jain Posted On : January 21st, 2023
PGP 2016-2018

Generally speaking, IIM Sambalpur and IIM Bodh Gaya are baby IIMs and quite similar in the sense that they have been established around the same time and have similar facilities. Yet if I had to choose one, I would always go for IIM Bodh Gaya because of the following reasons:

  • IIM Bodh Gaya functioned once under the oldest IIM, IIM Calcutta, and therefore has a similar pedagogy and curriculum.
  • It’s located at a tourist spot for Buddhists and Hindus and thus has good connectivity values. This in turn attracts better faculty and more companies for placements.
  • The hostels are quite near to the academic block and provide single occupancy rooms.
  • The student-driven clubs and committees at IIM Bodh Gaya keep the rigor high on campus through various events and competitions.
  • IIM Bodh Gaya has tie-ups with many global B Schools and its student exchange program allows eligible students to spend a trimester in the partner institution.
  • The placements at IIM Bodh Gaya are very decent. The basic statistics are as follows

Particulars

Statistics

Number of students

200

Number of Recruiters

70

Highest package

INR 48.58 LPA

Average Package

INR 16 LPA

Median Package

INR 15.25 LPA

We can say that IIM Bodh Gaya has made quite a mark despite being recently established. It has witnessed fast-paced growth over the past few years so it’s definitely a good choice.

How would people rank the IIM in Bodh Gaya amongst other management institutes?

GY
Gopal Krishna Yadav Posted On : January 21st, 2023
studied Master of Business Administration Degrees at Indian Institute of Management Kashipur (2020)

Judging an institute merely on the basis of rankings is a bit wrong. This is because a newly established institute like Bodh Gaya has very low rankings despite its constant growth. So instead of ranking let’s go through some major highlights that might be more useful than ranking the institute's

Culture: The student culture is very dominant at IIM Bodh Gaya. Various clubs and committees have been established by the students themselves who keep the rigor high with events, competitions, and positive energy.

Student Exchange Program: One major USP of IIM Bodh Gaya is its international student exchange program which enables students to study for a while in a foreign university.

ROI: If you are after the ROI factor, then IIM Bodh Gaya is for you. Not only does it have fewer fees than other IIMs but its placements are almost on par with those IIMs.

Faculty: IIM Bodh Gaya has a knowledgeable faculty pool who are constantly working towards the success of the students and institute. Their pedagogy involves case study discussions and regular quizzes.

Mentorship: Earlier the institute was under IIM Calcutta so its curriculum and pedagogy is quite similar to IIM Calcutta.

Entrepreneurship: The E-Cell at IIM Bodh Gaya works actively to promote entrepreneurship culture among the students through competitions and events.

Placements: The placement statistics given below will give you a general idea of the placement scenario at IIM Bodh Gaya.

Particulars

Statistics

Number of students

200

Number of Recruiters

70

Highest package

INR 48.58 LPA

Average Package

INR 16 LPA

Median Package

INR 15.25 LPA

All in all, I hope the above points helped you rank IIM Bodh Gaya better among the new IIMs.

How are the hostel and mess facilities at IIM Bodh Gaya?

HM
Hitanshu Malhotra Posted On : January 21st, 2023
Former Machine Learning Engineer at Accenture (company) (2014–2019)

IIM Bodh Gaya has three hostels

  1. Aryabhatta
  2. Bhaskara
  3. Hostel 3

Some major highlights of these hostels are

  • The hostels are co-Ed
  • The students are provided with single occupancy rooms
  • The hostels are regularly cleaned and therefore have a hygienic environment
  • Every room has basic stuff like a table with locker, bed, mattress, shelves along with curtains
  • The hostel also provides laundry facilities
  • 24/7 Free Wi-Fi accessibility makes it easy for the students to conduct research and indulge in online learning
  • The hostel has a common room where you can spend leisure time with your peers playing games, watching movies or news or simply chatting. It has sofas, table tennis, TV, carrom, chess, and poker.
  • Healthy freaks can go to the gym situated above the common room that is decked with facilities
  • The sports culture is highly promoted as Bodh Gaya has a basketball court, volleyball court, futsal court, football ground, and badminton court for sports enthusiasts.

Mess

Like the hostel facilities, the mess here is also very good. Every hostel has a separate mess. Food is provided according to the 4 meals per day program that includes breakfast, lunch, evening snacks, and dinner. Both non-veg and veg cuisines are available. The mess is large enough to accommodate 50-60 people at a time. Hygiene is strictly maintained and clean drinking water is provided.

So both the mess and hostel facilities at IIM Bodh Gaya are decent enough to ensure a smooth and comfortable hostel life.

I join IIM Bodh Gaya or try the CAT next year again? My 10th, 1Should 2th, and grad scores are 10 CGPA, 89% and 75%, with respectively no work experience.

HM
Harshita Mishra Posted On : January 21st, 2023
B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management, Nagpur (Graduated 2018

Dropping a year is a very risky decision and has its own consequences. So it’s better you analyze your prospects and inclinations before forgoing an offer from any IIM be it Bodh Gaya or Sambalpur. It requires a lot of courage to risk an entire year just to target a better B School. Sometimes it’s worth it and sometimes it’s not. So I will suggest you to forgo such an offer only if

  • You have a perfect plan to prepare excellently for CAT next year and you are confident you will score a higher percentile
  • You are good at the DILR section. Even if you prepare for your CAT again, you cannot improve much in the DILR section. You can improve your quantum and verbal skills but not much in the DILR section. So if that is one of your weaknesses, I don’t think leaving the offer is worth the risk.
  • You are going to work somewhere and gain experience. This is very crucial as during the interview you cannot say you took a drop year merely because you wanted to prepare for CAT.

I will say that IIM Bodh Gaya is not bad of a choice mainly because it is an IIM under the mentorship of IIM Calcutta.

Should I join IIM sambalpur or IIM bodh gaya? Or should I try again next year? I got a 93.26 percentile with no preparation.

VV
Vedant Vyas Posted On : January 21st, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Indore (Graduated 2022)

Anyone who can get 93.26 percentile without any preparation is bound to get 97 or 98 with proper preparation. So why give away the chance easily when you can aim for a better institute? It’s best you prepare for the CAT sincerely this time and target the top B Schools in India.

However, if you are planning to sit for CAT again, you need to be certain about some things. Like you will have to tolerate tremendous pressure and a hectic schedule. You will have a non-existent social life and all your energy will be invested in preparing for CAT. Most importantly you have to remain consistent throughout your preparation. Without consistency, all your efforts will go in vain. You should also make research the colleges you are planning to target next year and study their respective admission criteria.

But if you are not confident enough to sacrifice so much just to risk a year, you can always go for IIM Bodh Gaya or Sambalpur. Both these IIMs are new but will provide the necessary means to start your career. Basically, you need to be sure of what you are expecting from your MBA degree and you will have the answer.

I got Christ University BBA. Now I'm preparing for IPMAT. If I get IIM BODH GAYA or JAMMU, should I take them or continue with Christ University?

S
Srivanth Posted On : January 2nd, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Indore (Graduated 2021)

My cousin faced a similar dilemma. Initially, she was stuck and could not decide which college to go to. Ultimately she made a decision after analyzing the pros and cons of both institutions. She told me that one has to be extremely sure about what one wants to pursue in order to make this decision.

You should go for any of both the IIMs if

  • If you value the IIM tag more than anything even the course itself
  • If you are looking for great exposure to your life and want overall development rather than just Master

You may go for Christ University if

  • If you want to just pursue BBA and gain a job experience
  • If you are not willing to spend a rendezvous fee at IIMs

One major advantage of going for IPM from any IIM is that they all offer an exit option after 3 years, so if you give CAT and you are unable to get enough score to get shortlisted by any IIM, then you are on the safer side. This is because you will have an MBA degree and that too from one of the most reputed B schools in the nation. Whereas this may not be possible if you go for BBA.

People might be concerned that both these IIMs are comparatively new. But depending on the predictions these are bound to flourish in the years to come.

The final decision is based on your own convenience and interests.
