Which is better for Finance - IIM Indore or XLRI (BM)?

AA
Aishwarya Anand Posted On : January 24th, 2023
Former Assistant Manager at Union Bank Of India (2019–2021)

Without a doubt, XLRI Jamshedpur BM takes the overall lead in this comparison. Certainly, the opportunity cost is losing the IIM brand, but when one is an XLRI alumnus, they also stand tall. There are factors that place XL above IIM Indore, which one will realise once they pass out of it. It has a more than 70-year history and a large alumni base.

Furthermore, it has an excellent faculty and all students here are of merit without any reservations, which will provide you with a highly competitive environment and excellent peer learning.

*The college does not judge students on the basis of the score granted by any entrance exam. Hence, no cut off score.

Eligibility: A graduate from a UGC recognized university with 50% marks is eligible for admission to the course at both the places. Plus, the score of any exam from CAT/ MAT/ XAT/ CMAT is considered.

Admissions Process: A shortlist is prepared of candidates with a valid score in any exam amongst CAT/MAT/XAT/CMAT in both the colleges. The GD+Essay Writing followed by Personal Interview after the shortlist completes the process. BIMM also accepts the score of MAH CET and XIME considers ATMA and GMAT scores.

Course Curriculum: Following the pattern of London Business School with emphasis on producing industry ready candidates, BIMM appears appealing. At the same time, positive reviews regarding Academic engagement at XIME presents the curriculum in a bright light.

Other: The location of XIME being Bangalore, it claims being accessible to giants in the industry, thus ensuring better placements for students. As far as 'Student Life' is concerned, less focus on extracurricular activities, presents XIME in a bad light compared to BIMM.

To conclude, with a low RoI, XIME here seems to fall short in comparison to BIMM but covers up in academics and faculty.

TS

It's worth noting the impressive placements process the institute had in 2022. A total of 238 students participated in the process, and there were 70 recruiters on campus, including 33 first-time recruiters.

Consulting firms were a popular choice among students, with over 38 percent of the batch being placed in this field. Additionally, more than 21 percent of the Finance Management batch landed roles with Investment Banking and Private Equity firms. The finance domain saw the participation of both domestic and international companies, offering roles in analytics, wealth management, and private banking. In fact, around 20 percent of the Finance batch received offers for Investment Banking and Private Equity roles, which is a record high for the cohort. Prominent recruiters like Avendus Capital, Axis Capital, GEF Capital, Goldman Sachs, and JM Financial rolled out multiple offers to candidates.

Another noteworthy aspect of the placements process was the participation of E-Commerce industry leaders like Amazon and Flipkart. About 12 percent of the batch received offers from these companies, with roles across domains such as Supply Chain and Operations Management, Finance Management, and Management Trainee being offered to students.

Overall, the placements process at SPJIMR in 2022 was impressive and offered students a wide range of opportunities in various domains. Why do most chartered accountants fail in the finance courses at IIM Ahmedabad?

NK
Naina Kapur Posted On : November 29th, 2022
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Some Chartered Accountants or commerce graduates may have struggled with final courses at IIM Ahmedabad, possibly because the courses are far too advanced and specialized (such as financial engineering subjects), or because IIM A likes to surprise students in a variety of ways.

However, this is a rare case. This does not happen very often.

I have converts from IIM Trichy, Rohtak, Udaipur and Raipur. Which one is the best for a finance guy?

SA
Sameera Arora Posted On : November 10th, 2022
Studied at IIM Rohtak

IIM Trichy and IIM Rohtak are superior to Udaipur and Raipur.

Because of their location, the former two IIMs have an advantage over the latter two. One is close to a prestigious engineering college, while the other is a short distance from the capital.

In the 2020 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) management school ranking, IIM Trichy was ranked 15th. Goldman Sachs offers INR 21-23 LPA; JP Morgan offers INR 21 LPA; Axis Bank offers INR 18-20 LPA, and ICICI Bank offers INR 20-22 LPA.

IIM Rohtak is also a good option for a Finance MBA. It has a favorable environment for Finance specialization. The institute has a strong faculty. The student population is competitive. You will be in classes with gifted students. The peer group is also quite diverse. There are people from various academic and cultural backgrounds present.

I have converted both IMT and TAPMI. Which college is better for Finance?

DP
Daksh Prajapati Posted On : April 18th, 2023
Studied at TAPMI, Manipal

IMT marketing is great, but TAPMI is famous for its finance program. Bloomberg Lab benefits TAPMI financial students. In 2014, Bloomberg created the State-of-the-Art Finance Lab with 16 terminals with BSE and NSE data streams, along with 7 Thomson Reuters terminals. Students learn forecasting, risk management, investments, and global financial management. This lab bridges financial theory and practice by giving students real-world market experience.

Bloomberg is used in all first-year Finance courses and 60% of electives. The course material is top-notch, and the faculty—including the Director, a finance and marketing expert—are among the best in the nation. Most faculty members have Phds from top universities like IIMs and IITs. Finance students are envied on campus because they get the greatest final placements. Excellent profiles.
