Which is best, FMS, XLRI, or IIM Lucknow?

PT
Pragya Tripathi Posted On : January 16th, 2023
DTU'20 | CAT'21: 99.63%ile | XAT'22: 99.68%ile

Making a decision about a school is similar to creating a regression model, where the features serve as the parameters and the coefficients represent the students' preferences.

Batch size: The placement at XLRI Delhi is combined with the JSR batch. As a result, the combined batch size (XLRI JSR BM + XLRI JSR HR + XLRI Delhi BM) is quite large but still significantly smaller than IIM Lucknow. FMS is the clear winner in terms of batch size. As a result, FMS > XLRI > IIML.

Group of peers: This is a highly debatable and relative parameter. XLRI has no reservations, and some argue that people are chosen solely on merit, whereas FMS and IIML have more than 50% reservations. As a result, a better crowd.

The CAT score: It is extremely important to FMS. You'll mostly find a more educated crowd there. IIM Lucknow has very diverse selection criteria, similar to IIM Bangalore. In their selection criteria, they consider gender and academic diversity, previous academic records, work experience, and so on, ensuring a consistent and diverse crowd. Now it all comes down to personal preference, FMS > IIML > XLRI.

Tag: IIM Lucknow has an old IIM tag and is well-known worldwide. XLRI and FMS are both very old institutes with strong brand identities. Personal preference once again. IIM > XLRI > FMS.

Campus Life: FMS has no hostels and a very small campus. You're basically a day student there. IIML = XLRI > FMS.

Finance: Lucknow has more financial opportunities than the other two in terms of profiles available and companies visiting campus. FMS >= IIML.

How were your 2 years at IIM Lucknow?

HN
Hardik Nagar Posted On : January 16th, 2023
IIM Lucknow

Only two issues were present during your two years at IIM Lucknow, but they were enough to ruin your life.

  • Placement Group:

The placement team at IIM Lucknow is utterly corrupt on a divine level. It is the only IIM where our placement report has never been revealed. Not even the funded numbers released by IIM I & K.

Despite IIM L, being one of the top ten B schools in the country, the overall average and median package offered was INR 31.03 LPA and INR 29 LPA, respectively. After more than a month, 10% of the batch remains unplaced. Deserving candidates are doomed in a system dominated by such greedy and unethical individuals.

  • Faculty:

The next two years of your education will be spent being tormented by extra assignments whenever a good company visits campus by money-minded, egoistic professors who know nothing and teach an outdated curriculum. Around 10% of professors are divine.

Another 20% are somewhat average and do a good job of teaching, but they are limited by the useless curriculum. However, 70% of the professors are just pitiful; they don't know anything and don't know how to teach it. They are only concerned with making commissions on anything they can in order to sell businesses their useless MDPs.

What is the USP of IIM Lucknow?

TC
Tanuj Chandra Posted On : January 16th, 2023
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2018)

The curriculum that students will follow will be IIM Lucknow's USP.

The time spent on campus at IIM Lucknow, including academics, committees, extracurriculars, and, of course, friends and parties, is one of the most hectic periods a student can experience in the country. At IIML, you work six days a week and have projects, assignments, and exams on Sundays. So you have almost no weekends. It's the equivalent of working three months straight to earn seven days off (term break). The combination of summer heat and winter cold will give you goosebumps.

But, once again, this is what distinguishes the students. They are prepared to thrive and excel in even the most difficult environments.

Does IIM Lucknow also use Harvard case studies like IIMA?

AA
Akash Agrawal Posted On : March 20th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow'

IIM Lucknow programs emphasize extensive case-based discussions, presentations, and role-plays to initiate an interactive learning environment. So, professors use cases from all B-schools across the world.

  • Professors use cases from HBR, Ivey League, Stanford, IIM Ahmedabad, Kellogg’s, Wall Street Journal, and by IIM-L professors and students.
  • In this premier B-school of India, almost all the subjects use case-study pedagogy. Even the oral communication subjects use cases to give a glimpse of real-time situations.
  • The cases are important, but the level of the discussion carried out in the classroom plays a more predominant role. So, in all such analyses, the students are expected to read the case beforehand and prepare their participation notes. It is major for an extensive discussion.
  • Some classes involve cases only. But sometimes, some use cases for discussion purposes only.

All the case studies are available on the website of HBS and can be purchased. But it will not add any value to the students until debated in the classroom with experienced professors and diverse opinions of the students. The ultimate motto is to use the best cases to preview the real-life application. Harvard cases are considered to be one of the best management cases in the world.

Between IIM Indore and IIM Lucknow, which is best? Which one should I choose for finance?

PB
Palki Bose Posted On : August 16th, 2022
M.B.A from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2019)

For Finance, IIM Lucknow will be better. It is older than IIM Indore and offers better career outcomes in the Finance domain.

Reputed consulting companies, Investment banks, and big banks visit IIM Lucknow placements frequently. The job roles offered are similar to that of IIM ABC. During the 2022 placement drive, the average CTC offered in the finance domain was INR 53.34 LPA and the mean salary was INR 32.21 LPA.

IIM Lucknow has more diversified class profile. There’s a good number of Economics majors and CAs in each batch.

What was the waitlist movement at IIM Lucknow last year?

TJ
Tanishk Jalan Posted On : January 16th, 2023
PGP from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2018)

Every year, the movement of the IIM waitlists causes a commotion among students who have applied for admission to the IIMs. There are approximately 4000 seats available across the 20 IIMs. Another group of chosen candidates is kept in line after the initial list of chosen candidates is released publicly in case any candidate decides not to take a seat. The waitlist movement in IIMs and a few top MBA schools varies by category. The general category is extremely stringent, whereas the SC, ST, OBC, and PwD categories have some leeway.

The waitlist is kept confidential at IIM Lucknow. The merit list is instead released to the public. To secure a spot on the merit list, a student must meet the minimum requirement of 12 out of 40 in the PI round.

Is there anybody who got into IIM Lucknow after a bad interview experience?

NP
Neeraj Patel Posted On : January 7th, 2023
M.B.A from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2018)

My sister had a fairly poor interview experience and yet managed to get into IIM Lucknow. She was asked about the current issue of the world to which she mentioned the Syrian wars. He contradicted her saying it wasn’t a burning issue as it had been happening for more than 2 years. Flustered, she mentioned the US on the government's side. Further, the interviewer inquired her about her own opinion regarding the civil war. She confidently said that she couldn’t support any side due to the extremist quality of either of them. But the interviewer wasn’t satisfied and urged her to take a side and give a rather clear answer.

The discussion continued for a few minutes after which he asked her about the Kashmir issue.

After many diplomatic talks, he finally asked about her current role in the company and asked if she had any experience in E and P.

The interview was rather prolonged with a lot of contradictions and awkward situations. The interviewer kept cutting her off in the middle of answers. Toward the end, she was asked to solve a statistics problem which she managed to solve in 5 seconds. She was then asked to leave. She had little or no hopes of getting a call but as luck would have it she managed to get into IIM Lucknow.

Are the job profiles offered at MDI Gurgaon on par with IIMs like LIK, not ABC? How much effort does one have to put into his future to get on par with the IIM graduates if one graduate from there?

AR
Aditi Rajotia Posted On : March 7th, 2023
Studied at Management Development Institute, Gurgaon

IIML is clearly superior to MDI in non-marketing specializations in terms of placement. However, IIM I, K, and MDI are generally equal in terms of placements, except for a few banks that specifically seek out the IIM tag at I&K. If you work equally hard at either campus and all other operational factors are constant, you will likely end up in a similar position whether you choose MDI or I or K. However, as mentioned before, IIML still has the edge and requires more effort if you're in the finance or consulting field.

If you're interested in MDI, it's worth noting that recent placement reports show more and more prestigious finance and consulting companies are visiting the campus. This has helped MDI deliver well-rounded placements. So, if you're willing to put in the work, MDI could be a good option for you.

Which is a better B-school between FMS, ISB and IIM Lucknow?

SA
Shaveta Arya Posted On : January 6th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow

The student fraternity of ISB is very different from that of FMS and IIM Lucknow. ISB requires a minimum of 2 years and an average of 4 years of work experience for admission. Whereas IIM Lucknow and FMS focus more on academics and almost 40% of the batch comprises freshers. Others have 2 or fewer years of experience.

My answer is divided into 3 parts

If you have work experience of 2 or fewer years:

In this case, you should give up on ISB and totally focus on FMS or IIM Lucknow. Personally, I would suggest you go for IIM Lucknow because of its brand image. Despite the fact that FMS offers high ROI, you can never underestimate the value of an IIM tag.

If you have work experience of 2-3 years:

This is the toughest decision as you can nearly go for ISB but will be risking a lot including its extravagant fees. But you won’t regret choosing ISB because of its peers, faculty, research orientation, and campus life. It is also the place where all the big consulting firms come for placements. So if you value reputed firms a lot then go for ISB.

If you have above 3 years of experience:

Close your eyes and without thinking choose ISB.
