How is power electronics branch scope from NIT Calicut?

RD
Raman Das Posted On : August 21st, 2021
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2017)

One of my friends is studying in the NIT Calicut Electronics department so I can give you insight into what opportunities lie in the Electronics branch.

  • If your college is at the same level as NITs, then pursuing Electronics from NIT Calicut would not be the right choice.
  • Doing the PG program from NIT Calicut will not be a good idea.
  • Even for Electronics Engineering UG students, it is difficult to get decent-paying jobs unless they join IT.
  • For PG students getting decent CTC, placement is also difficult.
  • Several students prepare for GATE and other exams to get good job opportunities.

Therefore, if you want to make your career in Electronics then choose good IITs. As Electronics is a vast field, you can try to focus on the specialization that will be useful in your career.

Are the things really happening in NIT Calicut that are supposed to be?

RC
Ryan N. Charukesh Posted On : September 13th, 2021
Electrical Engineering at NIT Calicut (2021)

One of my cousins is a recent graduate of NIT Calicut and here are some of the changes he witnessed on the campus. He mentions that the MHRD of the current government is doing a good job of bringing positive changes.

  • Color-coded Trash Bins: It was recently inaugurated by the institute and will result in keeping the institute immaculate and tidy.
  • Satisfaction Survey From TEQIP II: This survey is the connector between students and the MHRD. Through this survey, you can report complaints against the administration for any cause they particularly do not support.
  • Youth Exchange Program: It is a special privilege for the students of NITs and IITs. For better information, you should refer to the updated notice announced by the Students Affairs Council on the NIT Calicut Facebook page.
  • The National Expo: The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) has been founded only for the students of NITs across the country to attend the India-US Summit and Knowledge Expo. This is the only opportunity when you can directly take up your project to multiple industrialists.
  • Nalanda Library: NIT Calicut’s Nalanda Digital library has once again begun getting back to working condition.

Overall, several things at the institute have gradually begun to take up a good shape.

What is the course fee for M.Tech in NIT Calicut?

SS
Sakshi Sharma Posted On : March 26th, 2021
Studied B. Com at Janki Devi Memorial College, Delhi University

NITs are quite expensive, and their fee structure is almost double of IITs. For M. Tech, NITC charges about 80,000 for one year (General and OBC) and 8,000 for SC and ST students. The fee structure for MTeh at NITC is as follows.

One-time Admission Fees

5500

Monsoon Semester Fees

39,500

Winter Semester Fees

37,175

Total

45,050

The hostel and mess charges are 3500 per month but students receive a 12,400 stipend per month from MHRD. So most of the students use this money to meet these expenses.

Students will have to pay the extra fee per semester for the use of additional facilities such as a gym and swimming. The course fee in the NITs is very high given that meritorious and qualified students are coming to join the institution. So if you can afford this high fee structure then you can come here. It’s your choice.

Is it worth it to do engineering physics from NIT Calicut?

AP
Akanksha Pandey Posted On : March 24th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2019)

You would first decide whether it is a good option to do Engineering Physics, then no matter whichever college you choose. It is important that you know a few details before making a final decision about college.

About the course:

  • Engineering Physics is a 4-year programme whose course commences in the first year and for three years you will study the same structure as of BSc-Physics.
  • It includes Quantum Mechanics, Nuclear Physics, etc. But in Engineering Physics practical knowledge is given more importance which will help you gaining extermination knowledge.

Placements:

  • A career after Engineering Physics is not promising. You cannot expect to get a place on campus with an Engineering Physics degree.
  • There are not many companies that have the Engineering Physics job requirement.
  • Most of the companies have different recruitment processes which cannot be done on-campus, except government firms like DRDO, BARC, etc.

You should not lose hope as college faculties and alumni help students in getting placed by identifying your interest.

Scope:

  • Some students after completing Engineering Physics go for an MSc course and get into research and join IITs or institutes such as BARC.
  • To get good opportunities you have to work hard and keep taking GRE, GATE, and other exams to clear it.
  • If you do not want to go for research, then you can join a non-engineering job or can go for TFI etc.

Therefore, if you have an interest in Engineering Physics and ready to work hard then go for it. It will surely pay you well. Most of the college faculties also help students in getting placed, so do not worry much about it.

Which should I opt for, BITS Goa CSE or NIT Calicut ECE? I am having a financial crunch.

PN
Pooja Narayan Posted On : August 26th, 2021
Studies at BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus (2025)

If finances are an issue, then BITS Goa isn’t the right place to go unless you come under the EWS category (total family income less than 11 LPA).

BITS Goa is one of the most expensive engineering colleges in India. A B.E degree can end up costing about 19 to 20 lakhs for 4 years and an M.Sc degree about 19 lakhs. If you are from general category, BITS Goa will dent your wallet for the next few years.

Besides being one of the best engineering NITs in the country, the fees for NIT Calicut are much, much lighter around 5.5 lakhs for 4 years. Getting a Circuit branch is no easy task as the cutoffs are pretty high. If you’re getting ECE here, and money is an issue, then this is the place to go.

Although, if you’re under the EWS section, BITS Goa will offer scholarships based on your performance in the first year. If you’re able to obtain a CGPA of 8.5+, then a scholarship of 80% is awarded. For a CGPA of 7.5, a scholarship of 40% is awarded, and so on.
