Why is there so much waitlist movement in IIM indore and Kozikode?

HS
Harleen Sethi Posted On : January 24th, 2023
IIM Calcutta | Category Manager intern at Amazon

When you approach this issue analytically, it becomes surprisingly simple to comprehend. Here are a few of the best colleges along with an estimated number of seats overall.

  • IIM Ahmedabad - More than 400
  • IIM Bangalore - More than 400
  • IIM Calcutta - More than 400
  • IIM Lucknow - More than 400
  • XLRI - Around 360
  • FMS - Approximately 200
  • SP Jain - Around 240

There are more than 2400 seats available if you only take the aforementioned colleges into account, and most students who are converting to those institutions will likely choose them over Kozhikode or Indore. The majority of those on the first list who convert also receive calls from these colleges, which convert them.

As a result, there is a significant overlap of candidates, which causes Indore and Kozikode to move up the waitlist quickly. Please keep in mind that the number of buffer calls made also affects how far along the waitlist a person is. Maybe the high waitlist movement is being caused by I and K making fewer buffer calls.

The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) of IIM Kozhikode is a full-time, residential program and is a financially supported doctoral program as was once initiated by the institute.

Here is a breakdown of various vital points,

  • The program is renowned for its rigorous, interdisciplinary training mandated in every domain of business management.

I'm working in a joint venture of Indian government and earning 7 LPA. I'm selected for IIM Kozhikode PGP course (2021-2023) Should I join it?

MS
Mahak Sengupta Posted On : September 15th, 2021
PDGM from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (2016)

Whether to join IIM Kozhikode or not is definitely your call because the scenario once you join IIM K would be different.

I would like to share with you an experience of my friend, who attended IIM K.

  • He dropped out of IIMK as he found it stressful. You should know that the course is rigorous and it prepares you for the stress that you are about to deal with.
  • Obviously, the chance of you earning a high salary is for sure. But again, it depends on how well the economy is doing.
  • Most of the time the employers have a preference order, i.e. IIT>NIT>fresher, for recruitment.
  • To ensure good placement opportunities try to be in the top 10% of the class in terms of GPA. Also, you can become a part of organizing events, leading clubs, etc.
  • Since you will have 12 months of experience, you will be treated as a fresher and won’t be allowed to sit in lateral placement. So, OPs companies will be out of the picture which is maybe your interest since you are coming from a similar background. So, if you want an OPs job role, stay in the industry for another year and then join IIM K.
  • In order to get a consulting or finance role, you will need to come in the top 10 of your batch. You will also need CFA certification.
  • Marketing and IT companies will prefer you since you are a fresher. So, if you are interested in Marketing or IT, you can definitely join the institute.
  • HR companies don’t usually visit IIM K.

So, I will advise you to consider all these factors and make a more convenient choice for yourself.

How is IIM Kozhikode for an Executive MBA for someone with 10 years of work experience? Is the time duration and investment worth it?

MS
Mishika Sharma Posted On : September 16th, 2021
Studied Finance & Marketing at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode

Before doing an MBA or an executive MBA from any institute, you should be clear of the purpose of doing this at this stage.

  1. Before taking any decision, take a look at the placements. If the average salary of the college is below or similar to what you are getting currently, then it is not worth it to pursue MBA.
  2. IIM Kozhikode has an average salary of INR 15 LPA and you are earning the same then there is no point in investing 1 year and 20 lakhs on this course.
  3. If you are planning to switch your domain from Marketing to IT, then it will be pretty difficult after such a long experience in one particular domain.
  4. IIM Kozhikode can help in gaining knowledge with a good network through Executive MBA. But with such great experience, you can try for a good institute such as HBS, Wharton, INSEAD, or at least IIM Ahmedabad.

IIM Kozhikode is a good university with a good reputation. But if you are looking for quality education and some CV points, look for opportunities abroad. If your current salary is very low compared to IIM Kozhikode’s average salary, then only consider joining it, otherwise do not waste your time and money.

I am choosing MDI, Gurgaon over IIM Kozhikode. Is it a good decision?

GY
Gaurav Yadav Posted On : November 17th, 2022
MDI Gurgaon Passout

It shouldn't be a big deal. They are both in the same league. Working hard will get you a great job no matter which campus you attend. If you do not work hard, you will end up in an average job regardless of the campus you attend. So make a decision, stick to it, and put in the effort.

MDI Gurgaon has a long history of successful placements as compared to IIM Kozhikode. The final report of the 2022 placement drive was officially released by MDI Gurgaon recently. The average salary increased by 12.57%, according to the report. The average salary for the top 50% was INR 32.2 LPA. The highest salary offered was INR 1.14 CPA, which increased by approximately 159% over the previous year. The median annual salary was INR 23.50.

Which one should I choose between IIM Kozhikode or IIT Bombay SJMSOM? Why?

AS
Anuraj Sinha Posted On : April 20th, 2022
Mechanical from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2017)

You should choose IIM Kozhikode. SJMSOM is a good B-School and maintained a decent record over the last few years. However, choosing IIM Kozhikode will offer you the brand value advantages of IIM and long-term returns.

IIM Kozhikode has a better faculty base for management. You will also get good opportunities to attend lectures by some of the famous visiting faculty.

IIM Kozhikode placements are pretty good as well. As per the 2022 placement highlights, the median CTC offered to the students is around INR 26.5 LPA

How is IIM Ahmedabad different than IIM B, C, K, and I?

NS
Nishad Shah Posted On : November 21st, 2022
Studies at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (Expected 2023)

IIM Ahmedabad is indeed different from IIM B, C, K, and I in many aspects. Some of these aspects are it’s:

  • Discipline: when it comes to discipline, IIMA tops the list. The first year is a real-life challenge for students with hundreds of cases to study, group assignments and projects.

  • Case pedagogy: This is the highlight of the IIM Ahmedabad curriculum. IIMAs curriculum aligns with that of Harvard Business School. So it focuses more on problem-solving classes.

  • Architecture: IIMs pride lies in its heritage architecture. The red bricks surrounding the semicircular arches enhance the campus’ appearance tenfold.

  • Crowd: Without any doubt, the cream of students get into IIMA. This is because it has the highest cutoff.

  • Faculty: IIMA has top-notch faculty while some of them are IIM Ahmedabad alumni themselves.

IIM Ahmedabad is different from other IIMs in all these aspects. But what really sets it apart is its director Ravi Matthai and his systems cultivating accountability and autonomy.

What should I choose between IIM Kozhikode, IIM Indore and NITIE Mumbai?

PB
Pritpal Singh Bhari Posted On : November 29th, 2022
Studied Marketing at Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (Graduated 2020)

If you want to pursue a career in operations, NITIE is superior to both IIM K and IIM Indore. Any other specialization is followed by IIM K, IIM I, and NITIE.

NITIE is the best college in India for operations management, but IIMs are unrivaled in terms of culture and rigor.

IIM K is superior to IIM I for two reasons:

  • IIM Indore has a large batch size.

  • IIM I has a lower level of diversity due to a lower number of work-ex people.

Which college is better IIM Kozhikode or SJMSOM? I have a work experience of 23 months with average academics.

YA
Yash Agarwal Posted On : September 15th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode

Definitely, both the B-Schools are great but IIMK should be your first choice. Unless we are discussing Operation then I would advise you to opt for SJMSOM.

You will have trouble with placements due to your average academics as most of your peers will have better academic records. You will always get opportunities to make your profile better. You can improve your profile by winning competitions, holding significant PORs, and getting an excellent grade in your MBA programme.

Even if you don’t get your desired placement, you can excel in the job and leverage your performance in the corporate world along with the IIM alumni network on your side. That way you will be able to fetch better opportunities a few years later.

Here are the recent placement highlights for the institutes.

Parameters  IIM Kozhikode SJMSOM
Average CTC  22.5 LPA  21 LPA
Highest CTC  46 LPA  32 LPA
Major recruiters  Asian Paints, Amazon, Brain & Co. JCB, Infosys, Flipkart

IIM Kozhikode definitely offers certain advantages which makes it a superior choice.
