Which is better at CUSAT, IT or EC?

SR
Sikha Rajput Posted On : July 20th, 2021
Studied Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communications Engineering at Cochin University Of Science

Both the options are good. There is no such difference in the quality of education, either in these two branches, or any other branch in CUSAT.

They make you work hard, focus on every detail, and stress a lot on the practical classes and labs.

As for the faculty, 85% are permanent. As for the quality of faculty, everyone will have a different view. According to my friends at CUSAT, the only difference you will find between the branches is that the EC people toil 3 times harder than the other branches.

According to the overall placement statistics the average and highest CTC offered to the students is 4 LPA and 15 LPA.

You should choose the branch that is better for you. Think about the branch where your interest lies, will you be able to manage the workload efficiently, does the subject interest you, or which branch has the better placements matter. However, I would like to advise you not to be bothered by placements any more.

YS
Yash Soni Posted On : July 8th, 2022
B.Tech from Cochin University Of Science and Technology

NIRF 2021 ranked CUSAT 65th in the overall category. The university has two engineering colleges, i.e. School of Engineering, Thrikkakara campus, and Kuttanadu Alappuzha campus. Naturally, the required cutoff varies for B.Tech, year to year based on different parameters. If you are targeting CS/IT, you will need to have a rank under 1000. CUSAT placements are good. Here are the highlights of the 2022 placement.

Parameters Statistics
Average CTC  INR 4.3 LPA
Highest CTC  INR 40 LPA
No of recruiters 100+
Major recruiters  IBM, Tata, Amazon, etc.

CUSAT conducts regular workshops by IGBC, ICI, etc. Students benefit a lot from these workshops.

What is the status of cusat in india?

AB
Anik Banerjee Posted On : July 20th, 2021
B.Tech CSE, CUSAT (2018)

One of my friends graduated from CUSAT and he was able to give me some information regarding the status of the institute.

CUSAT is a state University, recognized by UGC, and AICTE. It has also been accredited by NAAC.

In past, there was a rumor going on that CUSAT will become an institute of national importance under MHRD, Govt of India. However, as of now, nothing regarding this has been officially declared.

In terms of academics, CUSAT is a decent university. To know more about the institute you can read the student reviews available on various social media. You can also visit the official website.

Is CUSAT better than SRM for placement purposes?

AM
Ajith M Posted On : July 22nd, 2021
B.Tech CSE, IIT BHU (2018)

It depends on the branch or department you are choosing in CUSAT and SRM. Here is the highlight of the recent placement statistics for the institutes.

Parameters CUSAT SRM
Average CTC 4.96 LPA 10 LPA
Highest CTC 18 LPA 35 LPA
Top recruiters L&T Infotech, Tata Hitachi, JSW Steel, Infosys, Reliance TCS, Wipro, HCL, TATA Chemicals, KPT

If you want to go in Ship Tech, CS and IT, Safety and Fire, then Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) is a better option than SRM.

But if you are looking to make your career in Civil, EEE or EC, Mechanical then SRM is better than Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT).

One of my friends studies at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). According to him, although CUSA has better students than SRM, no private companies come for recruitment at the campus for core branches.

In SRM big companies come for placement. You also can sit for placement drives of companies. Some of the recruiters of SRM are L&T, Pallonji, Shapoorji, etc. You also get to face competition in SRM.

If you are willing to join CUSAT core branches then you have to look out for off-campus placements or can also prepare for GATE, UPSC, or IES.

Can I get admission in CUSAT if I score 65% in the CAT?

SG
Sudesna Ghose Posted On : July 20th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (2020)

According to one of my friends from CUSAT, there are no percentage criteria for CUSAT Common Admission Test. After two to three weeks of the exam, the answer key is usually sent to your registered email address where you can calculate your marks, according to the questions that you attempted. But this won’t be that helpful in predicting whether you will be selected or not as the trend of admissions keeps on changing every year. So it will be better if you wait for the results for the admissions.

After the declaration of the results, if you manage to get a rank between 1- 4000, you can get admission to the main campus and after that, you should apply for the CUSEK campus. If you score a rank between 1- 1200, there is a high chance for you to get admission into the fields like Naval Architecture, Fire and Safety, and Computer Science. If you are getting an opportunity to get admission in these fields then you can opt for them as these are flagship courses of CUSAT.

Yes, CUSAT does follow a Credit system. The University started following the credit system many years back. It was one of the first few universities which initiated the system in its curriculum in the early 2000s.

Which is the best suited MBA entrance in CUSAT?

SN
Sunanda Nandi Posted On : July 20th, 2021
Studied at Cochin University of Science and Technology (2019)

As far as MBA at CUSAT is concerned, you will have to score at least 50% aggregate marks in any subject in your undergraduate or bachelor’s degree.

  • When it comes to admission, the rank list is made on a combined basis of your scores in C-MAT (AICTE), or MAT score (AIMA), or CAT (IIM).
  • Your performance in the group discussion, as well as the interview, is also taken into consideration.
  • Lastly, which test matters the most, i.e. CMAT, MAT, or CAT (IIM) will completely depend on the university.

In my opinion, ace your interview and group discussion and score decently on the test and you will be good to go.

How do I convert a GPA to a % in CUSAT?

SR
Sankalp Rajput Posted On : March 17th, 2022
B.Tech. from Cochin University Of Science and Technology

According to the order released by the university, CUSAT CGPA to percentage conversion rule is - Percentage = (CGPA - 0.5) * 10

So, you need to subtract 0.5 from your CGPA and then multiply the result by 10. It will give the same result as calculating the total marks awarded and then finding the percentage.

Which university is the best, CUSAT or KTU?

TS
Tridha Saha Posted On : March 23rd, 2022
B.Tech Engineering & Mechanical Engineering, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (2019)

CUSAT Kochi is better than KTU. Being older, it is more recognized.

  • It is more reputed internationally. CUSAT brand name can help you a lot while applying for higher studies overseas.
  • Cochin University of Science and Technology courses are well-structured. The syllabus followed is tougher compared to KTU. So, a degree from CUSAT is more valued.
  • KTU is a technological university. It offers courses in this domain only. While CUSAT offers courses from various disciplines such as Arts, Law, etc.
  • In terms of placement, CUSAT is better. During the 2020 placement drive, the average and highest CTC received by the students was INR 4.7 LPA and INR 15 LPA.

These are the factors that make CUSAT a better option.

Which is the best branch in CUSAT?

SM
Suraj Mishra Posted On : April 20th, 2022
studied at Cochin University Of Science and Technology

Safety and Fire Engineering, Naval Arch, and Ship Building are the best branches of CUSAT. These branches are unique and are offered only at a few locations across the country. CUSAT placement for these branches is pretty good. The average CTC for these branches is around INR 7-10 LPA

Other than these, non-core branches like CSE, IT, and ECE also have good placement records.
